And… Rose Bowl. “We’ve got a bowl with a keen interest in preserving their date & time. That’s part of the negotiating package with a media provider. Does that add value or cost value for CFP?”

bullshite excuse

you can move games up to ensure rose bowl gets its game on time.

Some high school kids play 15 games in Louisiana, but a college kid couldn't potentially go 17? Hell, there are 200+ college kids that will be on NFL rosters next year, and that's a regular season.

Drop back to an 11 game conference schedule and drop the CCG if "too many games" is an issue. But that's a pretty lame concern to be honest.

The continued hubris of the Rose Bowl is holding CFB and the CFP hostage. It has great history and they should rightly be proud of it, but as do all things, times and people change. It's time for the Rose Bowl to adapt.

There hasn't been a season where the 4 seed was deserving. No reason to bring in an undeserving 5 through 12.

Deserving based on what? What criteria makes someone deserving of making the playoff? Is a one loss, nondivision winner deserving of making the playoff? A one loss team that didn't win their conference? An undefeated team from the PAC-12?

That's the problem with this system...there's no real definition of what it takes to make the playoff, and it can shift based on the committee's opinion.

Whether or not 5 through 12 are "deserving" of making the playoff, an expansion should come with set criteria where conference champions automatically get in. Then, it's only at large teams that are decided based on rankings.

Since 2011, only 3 teams have won the National Championship at the FCS level. Should the playoffs be changed because one or two teams have dominated that level? Are all of the other teams "undeserving" because they seemingly can't compete against NDSU?

If you’re on a team good enough to play 15, you’re probably blowing out teams and sitting in the second half enough that you’re really playing 11 or 12 at most… plus the games are shorter, 48 minutes to 60

Rose Bowl.

The college football landscape, it’s rivalries, traditions, and structure has vastly changed in the last 10-15 years.

Although I see no reason for an expansion playoff, as we still have only a couple of
championship caliber teams, I’d tell the Rose Bowl to adapt or get out of the way.

Expand to 24 games
No polls until after 6 games
10 game regular "season" against the conference

1 vs 24
Then 1 vs lowest seed remaining
Go until there is only 1 team

You can add all the exceptions that you want. That doesn't change the fact that complaining that it's too many games is ridiculous.

We can take away the high school argument. It doesn't change the fact that if it's "too many games", you can cut conference championships and a nonconference game from the schedule and keep it at a max of 15 games for the title game participants.

But that won't happen, because this is all about money. Which is why it's odd that any of the conferences would oppose expansion, because it's potentially more of their teams in the playoff, playing more games, making the conference more money.

The FBS is one of the weirdest divisions in all of college sports, because it's the only one that does not follow NCAA by-laws for the postseason.

I really don't understand what the difference is with FBS/FCS.

More people having a chance to win a title is a good thing.

The CFP semifinals are often not very competitive. Pairing a 1 vs 16 matchup just makes for more blow out games

Rose Bowl isn’t a special as they think they are. For most of the last decade they have been a 2nd rate bowl game.

This is way too simple to be screwed up this royally. Make the Rose Bowl a permanent playoff game on New Years Day. Expand to 8 teams.

The Rose Bowl would rather not be involved with the playoffs and host the B1G/Pac 12 than be a playoff game every year.

Ncaa will likely want future title games at Sofi over rose bowl

They are in luck. The Rose Bowl never liked hosting them and they have never even put in a bid to host the CFP Championship Game.
