They need to do at least the first 2 rounds on campus. The matchups this past year were terrible but the on campus atmosphere was still cool. Much better than a neutral site NFL stadium.

Either go back to the BCS (best option)
Or make it a 32 team knockout tournament and call it Winter Madness

About as much as the 4th place SEC / B10 teams that are also getting autobids.
SEC:
Texas (11-1)
UGA (10-2)
TN (10-2)
Bama (9-3)
VS
ASU (10-2)
ISU (9-3)
Iowa States only ranked wins were #21 Iowa and #24 K St which outside of their 45-19 blowout loss to ASU were their only ranked games.
Meanwhile Bama had wins against #2, #15, #17, #21 and a loss @#11 TN.
My point isn’t that a team like ISU shouldn’t be considered for an at large spot, but to force the committee to take a team like that from what amounts to the mountain west level conference circa 2012 is forcing additional bad matchups into the mix like we saw last year.

I’m only OK with this if they get rid of the conference championship games.
If they insist on that game, it is now meaningless and teams will potentially opt out of it or play their walk ons.
If the conference is getting more than one bid then a CG and the committee keeps the rules that losing a CG doesn't affect anything but seeing then I do not see why they would get rid of CGs. Unless they decide that the risk of injury outweighs the $$$ to be made and the pride from winning your conference. Since $$$ is likely to be on the side of the CGs I doubt they go anywhere.

I’ve always wanted 2 or 8 teams, but 8 was never offered.

Do you guys not see how laughable your arguments are? The polls are completely biased and have made you guys actually believe your own hype.
Ohio St was never ranked #1 the entire year by the polls yet they proved to be the best. The playoff system will prove what a farce the entire history of college football champions have been. No other real sport uses polls.
And yes, a team ranked #13 or #15 by a biased poll can be a national champion. Teams with 3 losses can be national champions. That’s how sports work. You play, win or lose, and get better. Then when the playoffs happen you go on a run. This idea that you have to be undefeated and ranked highly is antiquated and is why smart people have finally taken over.
The idea that you guys want to go back to where sportswriter choose the national champion or that polls determine who get in a 4 team fake playoff is laughable. The playoffs will expand into the 30’s because all fanbases deserve equal treatment and then let the results in the field determine the champ and not biased polls.

They got their 3rd loss from playing in an extra game than Bama didn’t have, the conference title game.
quote:Dude, ANY matchup of 1 vs 16, 2 vs 15, etc is going to likely be a blowout. And even the MWC circa 2007-12 would have gotten at least one team into a 16 team field most of those years…sometimes 2

Don't worry it will be soon be 24 teams, 6 or 8 SEC and BIG 10 teams each.
Disney (who owns ESPN) is going to do to college football what they did to Star Wars and Marvel.
More...more...more....64 Baby!

For decades, we determined a conference champion without a championship game...with balanced scheduling, we could do that again...would love to see the conference championship game replaced with those two play-in games...one in Atlanta and one somewhere else...would be so much more interesting.
Balanced scheduling was much easier to do when you had smaller conferences of 8, 10, or even 12 teams. Were up to 16+ team conferences. How are you gonna make a balanced schedules with how bloated these leagues are?
Doing conferences expansion plus playoff expansion has been the dumbest move college athletics has made other then the failure of allowing athletes to get paid which led to the current NIL bs we've been dealing with.

Can be....in a shitty title determination system sure

I could’ve used the S&P+ and it would’ve looked even worse for the B12 and ACC.

We’re only looking for 1 champion… you can’t go on a playoff run if there aren’t playoffs

So it's not the best teams just let's give everyone a shot at money scheme
Posted on 5/9/25 at 10:16 pm to JeniverJonez
Sure we lost to all three of our main rivals and dropped that game to Western Kentucky back in September, but we are still alive for the playoffs!
College football has become a farce in a blink of an eye

I’m the current format, first round should be neutral site. 2nd round on campus. Give the bye teams a real advantage and something to play for.
Tweak it in a 16 team format but the teams that get a bye should be rewarded with a home playoff game.

Sick of money driving all decisions in sports.
Posted on 5/10/25 at 10:03 am to The Egg
They need to expand the playoffs exponentially so more teams like Eastern Michigan and Hawaii have a chance to enter the CFP.
Posted on 5/10/25 at 10:04 am to jlovel7
No we didn't.
More football between top teams is a good thing.
Why this board is constantly against it is mind boggling.

Don't waste your breath. This board is full of dumb asses who hate change and argue against it just to be contrarian.

quote:I want the BCS back. Make the regular season count again. Going on a run in the postseason only means you were the hottest team for a few weeks, and playoffs devalue consistent excellence. The old MLB pennant and currently European soccer determine champions in a much more logical way. Obviously football is a different sport, but the BCS did the best job of emulating that concept.

Indiana and Arizona State and Bama even having a chance at the playoff make the system completely laughable.
