Well somebody is lying cuz Heyward says he wanted to stay:

I don't understand why Braves fans like Hayward, outside of Defense he did absolutely nothing.

I am glad Shelby Miller is no longer a Cardinal.

Miller was never expected to be a Cardinal for long, it's why he was involved in every trade rumor.
Attitude problems, bad work ethic, you name it. Very slow in his development that he was passed quickly by Wacha and Gonzalez was gaining ground quick.
Last October when the Cards wanted him to stay in STL in the offseason to work with Waino on his secondary pitches, he did not. More of the same from him. His DWI here in Springfield nearly got him dealt then.
Plenty of talent, just not sure he'll every reach it because of where he is mentally. He still has a long ways to go and at 24 he still has time. But for someone with his potential and given all the tools to succeed in STL, he's nowhere near where he should be at 24.

According to Jason, they never even contacted him about an extension.
Probably because they never had any intention of extending him.

But have you seen that WAR?!
On a more serious note, he's a homegrown talent with plenty of untapped potential. That's why there's so much appeal and whining about the deal. The thing how long can the wait for him to breakout and how smart would it be to extend him a massive contract extension waiting for numbers he may never achieve. If he wasn't so mediocre offensively so far in his career, we may have never had come down to this. It was a tough situation to be in and Heyward didn't do the Braves any favors. We wouldn't be having this conversation if he was closer to that 20/20 strong OBP guy we thought he was going to be.

He is 17th in all of baseball in OBP the last two years and put up a 20/20 season in his age 22 season.
His lack of power looks worse because he is 6'5, 240. But if you take him for what he is, a .270 hitter with elite on base skills, elite defensive skills and elite base running skills and 15 home run power, you will see him as a very, very good player.

A 25 year old with a 95mph fastball is hardly a finished product.
It can be 195 MPH, but it's useless if he can't place it.

I'm not trying to pick sides in this but I do think some ppl are forgetting the era we are playing in, a RF who puts up 20 bombs is basically real close to elite, if not elite at this point

Had no idea about his off-field issues. I will say that I've never been enamored of Jason Heyward. He seems to have an incredibly long swing and opens up too much in the hips. He has only a decent batting average, and though he can hit for power, he doesn't exactly light up the scoreboard. Given the money they're going to have throw at him in the near future, unless he comes to StL and finds something that he has been missing for the last four years at the plate, this just seems like a band-aid. Guess it had to be done, though. Particularly since we have a glut in the rotation.
We'll see. I trust in Mozeliak. Karabell and Schoenfield seem to think that the Cards just pulled a fast one on the Braves.

Yes, he is basically Shin Shoo Choo, which is valuable to a well built team like the Cards. Just look at the run KC put together with moderate hitting, great defensive/baserunning players. Heyward went from having to be "the man" in ATL to a team where he is just a piece.
And lol at Cards fans trying to shite on Miller

.262/.351/.429/.780 career stat line is not the 18+ million dollar player you think he is. He's an elite defender with mediocre production offensively. You need to take off those glasses man.

I seriously had no idea how low some peoples opinions were of him until this thread.
Every franchise would love to have a talent like that, alleged attitude issues aside.
