Looks pretty good for 20000 years old (when the "native" Americans migrated from Asia).

Nobody's "native" American. Some just got here earlier.

If the Cherokee Nation was this offended by the tomahawk, wouldn’t it have been discussed around him before now?
I don't know about the Oklahoma Cherokee, but the NC Cherokee have no issue with it. Back during the '90s they owned and staffed the factory that made the foam tomahawks that were sold and used as promotional giveaways. Not sure if they still do or not, but they were fine with the association, just as the Seminoles have no issue with FSU.

I’m of Irish heritage. Should I be offended by this? When I first saw it, I was mildly WTF, but it quickly left my mind and I hadn’t thought of it again until now. 2019 people’s skin’s too thin.

Between him and Carlos Martinez, their relievers have been awfully fricking whiny in this series

Yes, this kid is being ridiculous.

There will always be someone getting offended.

This should not even be taken the way he is complaining..

He thinks it depicts Native Americans as cavemen or some shite.

He's being ridiculous.

For answering a question he was asked?

He specifically said it doesn't make him angry, just disappointed. He also said it's disrespectful, not offensive.

But definitely react to the headline, not the content. You want to make sure to be as ill-informed as possible.

The fact that he feels disrespected by the fricking Tomahawk Chop tells me all I need to know about him.

Okay? I mean it's okay for you to not agree with his stance. I'm a Cardinals fan and I really couldn't give a shite about the tomahawk chop even if we had Sitting Bull on the mound.

But all he did was answer questions he was asked.

"I think it's a misrepresentation of the Cherokee people or Native Americans in general," Helsley said before the Braves' 3-0 victory in Friday's Game 2.

"Just depicts them in this kind of caveman-type people way who aren't intellectual. They are a lot more than that. It's not me being offended by the whole mascot thing. It's not. It's about the misconception of us, the Native Americans, and how we're perceived in that way, or used as mascots. The [Washington] Redskins and stuff like that."

No one thinks people of Cherokee decent in 2019 are sitting around in loincloths and feather headdresses chopping tomahawks while chanting to a drumbeat. This guy is looking way too deep in to a sports tradition that has no underlying meaning whatsoever of disrespecting Cherokee Indians.

Our society has apparently lost the ability to view matters within CONTEXT. If a bunch of drunk assholes were sitting around an indian reservation ceremony doing the chop that's one thing. But doing it in a lighthearted manner at a baseball game is quite another.

CONTEXT MATTERS PEOPLE!
