Where do we stop though? Is it really a level playing field when one public school is from a wealthier area and the kids get better nutrition and training because of this?
it's level bc the wealthier a public school is, the worse its talent is usually.

actually... the number of QUALITY coaches per kid in middle school and the number of QUALITY coaches per kid in high school is the unspoken number.... even more so than hold back %

Im looking at you Notre Dame of Crowley. When you get kids from 5 different parishes and can keep your enrollment at AA levels, you should be a powerhouse. 175 boys in the school and 108 on the football team. I guess they do like their chances against the Welsh and Kinders of the class...and Welsh is playing for a state championship after getting beat by ND 50 - 0 earlier this year. No doubt Coach Cook is a great coach, but my daughter could get them to the semi finals with the talent they bring in from Crowley, Church Point, Rayne, Jennings, Welsh, and the area for 30 miles around them. It

Around 80-90% of the kids in the school are from Acadia and most of them are 2nd, 3rd and now 4th generation kids attending the school
They are also not turning kids away to keep their enrollment down. They wish they had more kids like they did 10-15 years ago

They had just as many kids as they do now in the 90s before cook got there and they weren't winning championships
You think they were more talented than those Breaux Bridge, Amite, Lutcher, Independence, and Patterson teams they would play and beat before the split?

Coming from another state where it was a virtual total split as well

Having graduated from Stanislaus, I’ve always wondered why the few private schools that still compete in MHSAA were never forced out. It’s never even been brought up, to my knowledge, and my dad was an AD/AP until last year when he retired. I guess since the coaches/AD’s that hold all the power in the state only really care about football, and none of the privates have ever really had long dominant periods, they don’t care. They only dominate soccer, tennis and golf.

All a private school has to do is say, "come here... we will cover your tutition"

The rule is that you cannot give athletes tuition credits/scholarships you do not offer to the general student. I’m sure it happens but I don’t think it’s the norm.

Public schools can overcome this if they are a Magnet Academy. And in years past students used the adresses of relatives at times as well.

yep that dude is an idiot. They probably get 99% of the kids from Acadia parish all from catholic feeder schools.

Bro, they recruit in St. Landry, Evangeline, Lafayette and Vermillion parish....lol Having went to both ND and public school, there’s a reason why public schools are losing, it’s not because of superior talent.

You are so full of shite. The fact that you think kids from Opelousas, Mamou, Lafayette, and Abbeville go to high school in Crowley is so far of a reach in your search for why Notre Dame is good at football.

And for your parishes, its 2. Mostly Crowley, Rayne, Church point areas (Acadia) and a small number of Jennings and Welsh area (Jeff Davis).

What do you yahoos not see? Publics play with the hands they are dealt. A private like ND can go get kids 25 miles away in any direction. Even a perennial power like a Patterson is going to go thru an occasional down period when the talent level is simply not there. When was the last time ND or Curtis or Evangel had a down year? I know Coach Cook and admire Coach Cook, but the fact is they control who gets in and who doesn't. Don't piss on my back and tell me its raining.

The 2 kids from evangeline parish ND is the closest catholic school to where they live... SH in VP is about 15 miles further from their home.... and their momma went to ND...

There's no question private schools recruit for athletic purposes. Anybody saying they don't is a liar. Public schools also recruit but not at the same rate. I think the bigger advantage private schools have is that most have their access to their 7th and 8th grade kids. They have them running the same systems. They hire coaches that are bought in to their program or they have their lower level HS coaches running the Jr High program too. Public schools HCs usually have no control over who is running the middle school programs and usually middle school coaches care too much about winning and not teaching fundamentals.

Once again, this is really just a John Curtis/Evangel thing (im sure some other very small "christian" schools do the same"

The Catholic privates are just like the Public schools in that you have kids coming from multiple different schools and multiple different coaches and "systems"

You don’t know shite. How many DI football players have played at ND in the last 15 years? They were 2A in the 90s. Why weren’t they winning championships then?
And if you think they are turning down kids to keep enrollment low then you are dumber than I thought

I know plenty of kids that were zoned for other Acadia parish schools that played at Iota Or Crowley high.

There are plenty of private schools outside of those 2 with that advantage. I'm not saying it's unfair. It's just the nature of a private school honestly. It's one of the reason a private school is desirable for some parents.
