And if you put the team north of the airport, it would do very well. Say around i-45 and the grand parkway.

Went to a Flames game at the Saddledome a few years back. Was a ton of fun. Hope they find a way to stay.

Psycho new mayor renegged on the original deal and added millions in "climate mitigation" costs that weren't originally agreed upon. It was basically the last straw for the Flames.

Interesting because Calgary, Edmonton etc are generally considered the non batshit crazy prog parts of Canada

Solar panels on an ice rink

It’s like the climate crisis incarnate. Man made ice, and our overpriced, unwanted man made solution to it

Attendance was never an issue. An NHL team can thrive here given that it's run right. The demographics are right.

Calgary is an awesome city. The folks I know from there complain how it’s kind of gone to shite with the downturn of the industry there and how much the Canadian govt neglects the non coastal cities.

Nope. The Thrashers had a very hardcore fanbase when they were here. GTFO w/that BS.

I’d love to see an NHL arena with a retractable roof. I’m assuming it’s cold enough to support it there

Doesn’t KC still want a team? Or have they pumped the breaks on trying to lure a franchise?

i had a few customers that moved down from there. Canadians are weird people to do business with but there were pretty nice.

I remember how much of a relief it was when Nenshi got the arena deal done. The guy was mostly a disaster but he did that the right way.

It's kind of amazing how fast Jyoti has fricked this up. Maybe she's an Oilers fan.

I'm sure it'll get figured out, and if not, the Flames have one of the last truly old barns with personality to go home to and we can try again next year. The Saddledome is one of the symbols of the city.

I love the Dome as much as any other Flames fan, but man, a new arena would be really nice. The Oilers' new place looks like a starship inside and out, gimme a little of that.

Fair enough.

I just love how people who don't live here try to assume that our fanbase was non-existent and was the reason they left when that is the furthest thing from the truth.

Merry Xmas, brother

From article:

The Flames balked at paying an additional $10 million in roadway and sidewalk infrastructure and climate mitigation costs the city has added to the project since July.
