re: Cal, Stanford and SMU to the ACC are again under consideration

Both the UNC and FSU 247 sites have already confirmed that the GOR would not be impacted and there are already provisions in it that account for the ACC adding new schools and how they would simply roll into it

I hope they are added and all get more money. The ACC needs to exist. Having more than 16 in the SEC would be a hassle.

All won't get more money but the plan is simple. ESPN will give the ACC roughly $72 million/year for these new schools, per the current contract. For the first 7 years, SMU will get none of that. Stanford and Cal will get roughly 30% of their normal share to start with a very slow ramp up.
That leaves $50+ million per year to be paid out in whatever incentive plan (mostly football related) they agree upon. That's basically the hold up that should be settled shortly - what will that incentive plan be?
Also, it's assumed Notre Dame will keep playing Stanford yearly plus 5 other ACC schools as they have been.

Whatever the incentive is it still won't be enough for Clemson and FSU.

Well, they aren't needed to pass the vote (it appears UNC/NC State have been swayed) but they'll still benefit from it if they win a lot of football games. They can't leave the ACC anytime soon so they should realize the chance to earn more money with the success they already assume/expect is better than nothing.

On that theory, the SEC should replace Missouri or Vanderbilt with SMU.
That might not be a bad idea but the SEC isn’t hurting for schools in TX… SMU is more valuable to any conference that isn’t already in TX

We are years away from that being an issue. Who the hell knows what CFB will look like in 2030

Notre Dame can join no other conference than the ACC through 2036, assuming the ACC exists.
If Notre Dame wanted to join the Big 10, they would be working to explode the ACC (enable defections to SEC and Big 10).
ACC should work to add them as football member by giving offering them a reduced payout, but allowing ND a separate 5 game NBC contract.

San Francisco Chronicle, which is reporting that Cal, Stanford and SMU are "in the process of finalizing a deal" to join the ACC in football as well as men's and women's basketball.
wonder what happens to Cal and Stanford's other sports?

ACC going to stick with an odd number of schools? I guess with ND it would be even in every sport but football?

Take Tulane you cowards!

Pretty crazy development. The ACC just adding schools for almost free to hit a trigger that they almost certainly will share the majority of with only FSU, Clemson, and UNC just to basically bribe them to shut up

Unfortunately SMU has set the standard for G5 teams moving up that you must be willing to eat a decade of working for free
I don’t think Tulane is doing this plus the money doesn’t seem to be there. Not saying they are poors just don’t have the booster support that SMU does

It also doesn’t hurt that they’re located in the DFW metroplex…

Chocolate covered turds are still turds.
Just because a university is in a metro area does not make for a good athletic partner.

Cal and Stanford probably join the Big West or West Coast Conference for other sports.

Reading rumors that if ACC rejects Calford ESPN will then go to try and make the Big 12 take them. Pretty gross how they (along w/Fox) murdered a conference purely to keep Apple out of the CFB game.

Nothing says “Atlantic Coast” quite like “Dallas, Texas”
