I knew this thread would draw idiotic responses, but 8 pages?

There should be a reasonable expectation in basketball that you can run full speed towards the hoop without someone throwing an elbow at your rib cage. There's no pads and it seemed pretty obvious that the intent was to harm and to generally act like a thug bitch.

The argument that JJ deserved it because he was actually trying is ridiculous. There was 8 minutes left and the reason they continue to play, is because thats their job and they are still prepping for the next game/series. What did you want them to do? Just hand the ball back each possession until the game gets closer? Just pretend-play play for 8 minutes?

The NBA won't do anything too drastic, but honestly, how was that NOT criminal behavior? Taking his shirt off like he was gangster was icing on the cake. frick sore losers and frick that dude.

I would suspend them 10-12 games...or maybe even just 5. But I'd make the suspension effective for the next postseason so it would really sting.

Then I'd hit them in the one place they care about, the wallet, by fining them all pay and bonuses for the 2011 postseason.

Do those two things and you'll never see another cheap shot from a player whose season is over anyway.

I was actually about to say that perhaps it would make more sense to just suspend him from next season's post-season since he obviously can not be trusted to handle losing without assaulting people. He would have to carry that albatross around with him the whole year.

So, +1 to you.

You could also hand check in the 80s

You must not watch the NBA. Despite what the rules say, certain players can still be hand-checked all day.

Depends on how many jerseys a player sells. If you're some chump white player than you can be hand-checked, but can never even think about defending a star player's shot. The NBA is kind of like pro wrestling.

The problem with it is that you have fans of teams who are going to defend it because "basketball is a man's game". The fact of the matter is that if Jim down the street is upset with you when you ball and throws a cheap shot, you can get up and whip his arse without a problem. If that's your livelihood and a 7' tall behemoth does it, not only can you not get up and hit him, you can't say anything either. Not to mention, Barrea comes down wrong from that, and he's risking his career.

This isn't street ball. It's professional basketball, and their job. If you and a co-worker were competing for a job, you couldn't purposely just lay them out without being fired. Suspend this guy for 10 games.

There was 8+ minutes left. WTF was he supposed to do?

3-5 game suspension at best. Mav'S fans are pussies

And how long if he had broke his neck or back? 6-10 games?

The Lakers got fukn spanked. They should learn to deal with it like grown ups.

i say 10 regular season games and 5 postseason games to be served the next time his team makes the playoffs... and this would follow him no matter what team he goes to.

also odom should be suspended 2 or 3 games. we need to get non-basketball aggression acts out of the game

I hope a bunch of Puerto Ricans jump Bynum in the off season to defend their white brethren's honor.

what we have learned in this thread:

lakers fans are ridiculous homers

that is all.

JJ "deserved" it
who knew you could "run up the score" in the PLAYOFFS of professional basketball. on the 2 time defending champs no less.

bynum's post game was money. "i just wanted to hit someone"
well you little bitch, why didnt you hit heywood then? he was on the floor at the time.
no andrew, you just wanted to push someone around that couldnt defend themselves. you are a pathetic.

The Laker hate here is hilarious. Guess you have been needing a way to get back at the last 10 years of domination for a while now. All dynasties come to an end, I think its funny how all the haters start talking shite when its over.

It's like when someone would bust a kid's chops in school and after they walked off he puffed his chest out and was like "Yeah, you dont want none!"

We already have emotion out of it, might as well. Hell, let's get some robots out there to play.

This thread is filled with fail on both sides of the issue....

Bynum acted like a douche and should be given a "statement" type suspension to discourage other players from acting like cry babies and possibly endangering another player's career. I have nothing against hard fouls, but this was done specifically to hurt the other play and not to defend the basket.

This has nothing to do with taking emotion out of the game. This is about taken douchebaggery out of the game.

And the argument about running up the score is laughable.
1. This is professional basketball so if you are losing big then play better
2. It was like 10 mins to go in the 4th when it happened. WTF was JJ supposed to do? Just let the shot clock expire? Really stupid attempt at justifying a cry baby move.

shite like this is why the pussification of America is on the rise. Dude these are the two-time defending champs. The only people to blame on the loss are the lakers.

I just think people always come up with a way to bash on dynasty teams when their time is up. Happens every time.

I was pissed off last night and maybe my arguments werent making much sense because I was thinking with my emotions instead of my head. But I still say I can see why Bynum would want to hit someone. They were down and they kept pouring it on. I'd wanna hit someone too. The difference is I would have gone to the coach and said, either get me out of this game or im gonna hurt somebody cause the next time that little lily white snowflake goes past me down the lane with that smirky grin on his face im gonna erase it for him. (I'm white btw, was just going from Bynum's point of view. )

I do maintain that the league is policing these players too much as it is. The fact that the refs can T them up for being emotional or vocal about what they feel to be is a bogus call is bullshite. The lack of emotion from the players because of that shite has made the NBA borderline unenjoyable this year.

Bynum strikes me as someone who would be in jail if he didn't make millions from playing in the NBA.

He's one of those punks that would probably rob your grandma for easy cash.
