The start of any negotiations involving a complex deal whose end product could be expensive, impactful and controversial can be an anxious time.

It’s an anxious time right now in Buffalo and at the State Capitol in Albany.

Preliminary talks have begun between the owners of the Buffalo Bills, the State of New York and Erie County as officials consider a pitch by the team to build a new NFL stadium.

In fact, it’s one of the largest asks for public money in pro sports stadium negotiations: Pegula Sports and Entertainment, the team’s owners, have pitched a $1.5 billion proposal for a new stadium in Orchard Park and to help cover some renovation costs to the Pegulas' NHL Sabres arena in downtown Buffalo.

They’ll pay for a new stadium. Maybe not at that price tag, but it’s Buffalo.

I’m sure the fans in Buffalo are going to fall all over themselves to give the bills what they want. They seem like the one fan base where this might actually go over halfway decently.

Billionaire owners who pay a far lower tax rate than the rest of us want tax money to fund their new place of business. Okay.

I like how they waited until they had a good season to bring it up

this is a negotiation so i doubt they actually end up at 100% but still. and in this day and age, municipalities should tell these teams to shove it if they want a single penny

very likable and genuine group. Other fan bases in general (bears, eagles, cowboys, raiders) just make you hate people.

I just don't vision the Buffalo Bills playing in a glitzy new stadium. When I think Bills, I think shitty run-down stadium near a freezing-arse lake.

Why do the people always approve the tax hikes then? Are you saying people shouldn’t be listened to and votes should be ignored?

I always see this crying about AT&T Stadium and Globe Life. It’s a dumb talking point when the residents say okay sure, we’ll foot that bill.

It will be a damn shame if they build a retractable roof stadium

Eerie County in Buffalo isn’t exactly flush with cash and resources - will not be a popular tax hike proposal despite the hardcore fandom in Buffalo.
