I know what that word is but I have no idea if a mid 20s black guy would know what that term really means. Not that hot of a take here guys.

from your comment, you apparently didn't know. Maybe you need to tighten up your game?

I was saying I haven’t seen much of it covered by the MSM, or even on here
So I’m going to need to tighten my game, but it was not covered all like Leonard’s story.
I’m also not an NBA fan/follower so that’s also probably why. Do we think this guy gets fined?

Unless Forrest Gump or American Gangster counts then no. I'm not a big movie person. There are plenty of classics that yall wouldn't believe I haven't seen.

I didn't have to go looking for it either time. To answer your question, yes, he will get fined and he will go to some politically correct classes. After graduation, he'll come out and tell all of us what a changed person he has become.

IDGAF about the guy at all but there was nothing racial about what he said

Ah yes, the soft bigotry of low expectations. If that were a white guy you pussies would be crying

What's funny is they have a problem a mean word but no problem with him referring to himself as a murderer.

I'm expecting him to be traded and ousted from the league if we want equity and equality

Only reason I know this is a slur is by reading Vietnam books and watching the History channel.

I know of the word because of my two best friend's in high school, one of their dads fought in Vietnam, and my other friend was Vietnamese

That's the only reason I ever heard it in conversation or gave any special attention to it.

I know it's been used in movies, but I could easily see how someone younger than me either:

- wouldn't watch those movies
- wouldn't notice the word or correlate it as a racial slur

Unless people also think "Charlie" is a slur.

I would be shocked if twitter didn't think Charlie was a slur. On a complete side note, I used to schedule audits when I worked for the state, and I made heavy use of the Nato phonetic alphabet when there were communications problems, and thinking back multiple times I used Charlie when setting up appointments for Vietnamese owned businesses.

Whoops.

and look i agree with the "somebody in the mid-20s likely doesn't fully understand the word" argument

but that legit applies to Myers Leonard, too. i imagine the g-word is in more consumed media than the k-word

both have largely been eradicated outside of very niche content

It is MUCH more likely for someone not to know K-word than G-word.

The K-word is really not common at ALL and you almost never see it in movies or media. So it is pretty likely that Leonard, as he claims, just saw others using it in games and thought it meant something else.

G-word is MUCH more common and has been used repeatedly in every single Vietnam movie ever.
