I'm just imagining how different the responses would have been if it were an NFL or NBA player.

About the same Id imagine.

You don't want a cap, fine, but at least put in a floor so some of these crap teams will be forced to spend some money.
Are you familiar with how negotiations work?

Billionaires and millionaires are arguing over how much money they each need to get to survive while expecting the working people to support them

I hope the MLB implements a salary cap. Every team being a minor league team for the Dodgers and Yankees is very boring.

What

Players like deferred money because it drives total salaries up

That isn’t why those teams are shite. For example the Pirates received over $200 mil in revenue share last season, they pocketed over $120 mil of it and spent $87mil on the roster.

You're either disingenuous or delusional.

This place loves to back owners and commissioner when it's the players. "Cry baby millionaires" and what not... no?

Now they aren't cry babies anymore? Now they don't need to be taught a lesson? Now it isn't just a game and they aren't easily replaceable?

This has been the common line that’s been toted around, and that it benefits the guys signing shorter term/smaller money deals because it brings the market up for them

Perhaps it’s true but I’ve never seen any actual data to suggest that’s the case. There are plenty of deals where the AAV seems pretty in line (if not below) for what the market would demand for that player, but a ton is deferred. Teoscar Hernandez is an easy example I can think of off the top of my head

You need great teams in big markets to drive ratings… this isn’t NFL where parity works and it doesn’t matter who’s on top

If a football player did the same thing people would call them greedy… not the fans per se… the owners and the league just got enough money to shape the narrative in the media

Great response from one of the league’s best. He coulda handled it like a mature adult, or even ignored him, but he just had to have an outburst like a petulant child. I’m shocked.

LMAO! Are you even reading the responses?
Once again, there are very few supporting his stance and why would they?

And unlike the NFL and NBA ,MLB has no salary cap and the league obviously needs financial restructering
and Harper along with Scott Boris are a huge part of the problem.

The players don't want a floor either because the owners could use it to justify a cap.

I'd fix it by having a floor for teams that accept revenue sharing. That way the Nuttings of the world can't just pocket the money and put a losing product on the field.

Fans don't sit around wondering when Josh Allen or Joe Burrow is leaving town, but they know there is no chance Paul Skenes is still in Pittsburgh in 5 years. It kills those fan bases, and ultimately drags the popularity of the league down.
Blame the owners. The owners of these small market teams refuse to spend, even with revenue sharing. Instead of a salary cap, put in a salary floor.

Disagree. Regular season MLB ratings are largely driven by regional fandom and individual stars.

Sports were better when the commissioner was a neutral party between league and players

MLB needs a cap. When 1/2 to 1/3 of teams are eliminated in opening day, it keeps league revenues down which hurts the players
