Wonder if construction on the new stadium is behind schedule?

No you don't trade for Olivera and expect to start competing in 2019. They'll start spending... soon imo.

Getting that protected pick this year is key. Imho.

Text me when BravesCave confirms.

Oh, we will definitely get that pick now. Just lost Manny and Alex from rotation. No closer. We're good.

I have faith in Hart that we got more. He has done an incredible job thus far.
Hopefully so, cause what's been mentioned so far would pretty much negate all of the good moves he's made so far. If we got Olivera and Barnes for just Wood and JJ it might make sense, but if we are trading Peraza too we better be getting some serious prospects back, not the garbage mentioned.

FWIW, we are getting Olivera at 6 years for only 32.5 mill as the Dodgers always paid the signing bonus.

Yep, he'd fit in perfectly at 3B as long as he's elbow is fine, but that's a huge question mark. Dude has barely played this year in the minors as well due to injury.

I like getting Olivera for the years. He is still an unknown though. The hard part for me to understand is losing Wood not Peraza. Wood should demand a hefty return.

Yep, if we are giving up Wood, Peraza, and JJ the return should be something like Olivera, Barnes, and De Leon or Holmes, not the crap return mentioned so far. Not to mention if we are going to get trade raped like this we could at least be getting rid of CJ's contract.

Is Pereza definitely part of the deal?

Hopefully not, guess we'll find out later tonight or in the morning if the deal goes through.

I think Peraza's value is inflated by the relatively shallow depth of Braves position players. He was expendable. I'm more interested in seeing what we get from Wood. We are in excellent shape in terms of SP depth going forward but our return has to match value received.
Olivera's contract is very attractive.
'15: 2m
'16: 4m
'17: 6m
'18: 6.5m
'19: 7.5m
'20: 8.5m
Backloaded as frick, but it will not be a factor in our payroll until '18. By then, our reworked TV deal and stadium complex should be pumping more money into the organization. It also fills a huge hole at 3B.
Bottom line is that management has shown us that they're shy about taking on top FA bats and they would rather trade pitching to acquire bats through trades. This may be something we will have to get used to

Yeah, dumping Babip's contract would have made a big difference in how I feel about the deal. I guess we'll know more tomorrow. This deal may not even happen.

Oh, I have no issues with that Jonesy, I was actually posting in a game thread this week that Wood or Julio would be traded by this offseason for a bat. Trading Julio/Wood for bats and then going hard after Price or Grienke this offseason is actually a plan I agree with.
And if it was Wood for Olivera straight up I could sort of see the logic, even though I think that's a bit of an overpay. But while I'm not the biggest Peraza fan and don't see him having a future in Atlanta because of Albies, he has more value by himself than the rumored prospects the Dodgers are sending our way.
There needs to be different prospects coming back our way or Hart got hosed just like he did to the Padres in the Kimbrel trade, but in this case I'd say maybe worse, because that trade at least had some logic for the Padres.

I mostly agree. I'm looking forward to seeing the final details
Saw this on another website about Wood.

Been following the trades and lurking the ATL threads and I will say that I like the direction we are heading.
We're getting good pieces. Hart has been working that magic like Loomis.
The future's so bright I gotta wear shades.

This deal seems to be done outside of medicals. I just don't know what to say.
Value wise it's a clear loss for us.
It seems like our FO has had some kind of obsession with Olivera so hopefully they're seeing something that nobody else is with him and he turns in to a star.
His health concerns make him hard to even get excited about though.

Yeah, his health is a huge concern. I mean, Olivera has a clause in his contract that adds an extra year onto his contract for just 1 mil if he has to have tommy john surgery at some point during the contract. The dodgers wouldn't have added that in there if it wasn't iffy. And that's a pretty big deal given we are likely to be starting him at 3B.
