Pittsburgh Steelers

Sports have become so corporate these days.

I would rather the jerseys remain untouched with advertisements or logos but it's inevitable. At least they made it blend in well. I have a feeling that logos on jerseys will be obnoxious in 3-4 years

Apparel manufacturer logos at least can be rationalized.

Pretty sad day for major professional sports leagues in America, IMO.

FYI, GE is moving it's HQ from CT to Boston and that is fairly big news locally. I'll bet this is not the only tie-in with the Celtics or other Boston sports franchises happening...(luxury suite deals, cross promotion, etc., etc.)

I actually don't understand the logic.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I don't see how paying to put a logo on a jersey increases revenue. Who's going to purchase GE products because they saw it on a Celtics jersey at 8pm on TNT?

Sort of like NASCAR vehicles being covered in logos. Do people really buy things because they were advertised on a car?

I never understood it either. I've never bought any product because it was advertised on some car or uniform.

1. He was talking from the NBA prospective
2. Businesses don't advertise for shits and giggles. It works. Plain and simple.

Anyway, don't see how this is even a big deal whatsoever.

To reinforce their brand. Same as conglomerates like McDonald's, Coca Cola, etc.

Absolutely. NASCAR fans are the most brand loyal of any sports fan subset.

Yeah, the Celtics made an extra $7M for putting a GE logo on their jersey. But there's going to be a lot of people, myself included, that aren't going to spend $100+ on an official game day jersey that's covered in bullshite logos. Jersey sales WILL decrease from this. Even if it's just 2-3% that's a huge revenue drop, as jersey markups are fricking nuts.

So you're saying that you would spend $100+ on an authentic jersey that doesn't have a corporate logo on it?

I think you're overestimating the number of people who will refuse to buy a jersey because of this.

Yes. That's exactly what I'm saying. I have purchased Saints jerseys and even a Boston Celtics Jersey before. But I won't do it when it looks like a NASCAR outfit.
