You watch his highlights and it’s next to impossible that his career ended up the way it did.

Tiger. I understand he was on top of his game for a long time but he left so much on the table.
He broke his body he was so good..

I feel like Mike Trout willfully staying in Anaheim is kinda just throwing in the towel. Imagine him in a better lineup with a team that competes
I’d say he’s overrated. ESPN tried everything they could to force feed him down our throats. He’s a really good player, but his overall career leaves a lot to be desired.

All this and no mention of Steve Howe who was so good that multiple long term suspensions could not keep MLB teams from taking a chance on him.
If he wasn't so drugged up, he could have been mentioned with some of the all time great pitchers....instead he's relegated to a funny line in Naked Gun

The record books should just be the year he set each one

quote:He did try in 2013. Remember he got Jeff Garcia to coach him and worked out trying to get a tryout with an NFL team and none were interested. That's how badly he fricked up with the Raiders.
Walked away super young and never really tried to give it a 2nd shot..

Arik Gilbert is one of the bigger freaks to come through HS football in a long time. Absolute unit. He had an NFL body and ability in high school.
And he's completely crazy. Some personality disorder. Will waste away.

I'll go with three MLB players that came of age in the mid to late 80's.
1. Dwight Gooden- was great for 3-4 years, but he could've been one of the or possibly the greatest ever if he'd laid off the drugs and other off the field stuff.
2. Daryl Strawberry- same as Gooden, but was better for a little longer. Should've been a no doubt HOFer but couldn't get past personal demons.
3. Eric Davis- me being a Reds fan allowed me to follow him closer than most. He was touted the next Willie Mays when he came up and boy was he something special for about 3-4 seasons, but injuries derailed his career. Again, what could've been?

As someone who watched every game while he was a Sixer I also agree. Kept waiting for him to become the next Lebron and it never happened.
For years he'd tease Sixers fans with summer workout vids of him hitting threes only for him to not even try during games.
Eastern Conference semis game 7 vs the Hawks was my final breaking point.

Most physically gifted QB I have ever seen. He is an actual create-a-player from Madden. Perfect height, build, throwing motion and insane arm strength.. he just didn't like football and had a drug problem. Walked away super young and never really tried to give it a 2nd shot..
Jamarcus in a better situation than Oakland may have become a decent QB but he lacked the brains and work ethic to last in the NFL.
The real waste of talent is that he never played baseball. Dude probably could have piped 100 if he ever picked up baseball as a kid.

Zion may be the best example, no doubt…

I was told that he was an all-time great by the advanced stats

As someone who watched every game while he was at LSU what an absolute loser he was. All the talent in the world won’t make you a winner
LSU vs. Marquette in Brooklyn in 2015. Their first legit opponent that year. LSU down 1 in the closing seconds and Simmons has the ball in his hand with room to take the last shot and win the game. Instead he drives and kicks it out to Jalyn Patterson to take a contested 3, who misses as time expires. I didn't realize at the time how much of a red flag that was.

Was going to post this. The guy should have been in the discussions with the Mantles, Aarons and the like. Not a complete waste. He just didn't come close to scratching the surface of his talent.

Not #1, but Wander Franco is up there. Was the #1 prospect for multiple seasons and had a good start to his career as a young player making the all star game in his 3rd season. What an idiot.

Johnny Manziel Maurice Clarett
Jesus, he said waste of TALENT
Not sure what this is about. Clarett was the USA Today offensive player of the year coming out of HS and was a parade all American. Then he comes in and almost single handedly drags Ohio State to a national title (offensively at least).
Dude was oozing with talent.

His talent level on display at LSU was amazing to watch at times but it’s almost like he just hated playing basketball
