Does he think he will out run Wilson’s retirement? Or just draft a rookie and roll with it?

He should have just sat out another year but maybe he just loves coaching that much.

Wait another year and the Chargers and Cowboys jobs might be open.

Coaches are very arrogant. They think they can coach up anyone. You see it all the time in the draft.

I think believes he can fix Wilson and win a lot of games with that defense.

Wilson had one bad year and you can maybe talk yourself into it being due to the injury he had coming into the season and potentially Hackett being incompetent.

Especially at his level with a SB ring like Mike McCarthy.

What happened to New Orleans? He suddenly just quit coaching there to get another gig elsewhere. That is weird. Or was he forced out?
I know he wanted out of New Orleans.

Maybe, he and Wilson on same page and reworks contract. Wilson is not bad with the right system. We will see,

I hope they win 3 games

They score 20 PPG this season and they’re damn near undefeated. That may be why.

You are a hero if you fix Wilson’s struggles from last year. If you don’t, you convince ownership that you’re the best guy to develop a young QB with time.

Wilson was a top QB in the NFL for a long time. He had one bad year with a bad coach. Payton probably thinks he can work with him and get another 2-3 years out of him. Wilson's age is concerning though.

Agreed.

Wilson still has some gas left in the tank.

He has a great defense, good offensive pieces, and Wilson showed promise when Hackett got fired. Wilson was much better in the games after Hackett was fired. Payton thinks Hackett was the problem (and I think he was), so he can come in and do some minor changes, install his system, and have a contending team
