They could just modify the ball like they've done for home runs but to slow down pitches.

it would hurt the guys that don't throw hard

And pitches that break more than 12"

Was going to comment that if OP's goal is to have more offense, more balls in play, and player safety (pitcher & batter) wouldn't the first limitation to put on a pitcher would be to limit the movement of the ball. As asinine as either rule would be, this one would have a better affect on batters being able to make contact and reduce wild pitches & strain on pitchers arms.

Do you lean left politically?

Serious question.. just trying to see something

I’m likely so far right of you that you’ve never even considered the positions I hold.

But maybe you’re thinking of baseball as something more than a game. Games can have whatever rules we want them to have. It’s not a matter of right and wrong.

Like I said on the last page... What's weird is that the 90' is measured from the tip of home plate to the back edge of first and third, but the 90' to second base from each back corner is measured to the middle of the base.

more just about maintaining a balance between pitching and hitting.

LMAO

Speed of pitch is not an issue for the bulk of professional hitters.

It's the rotations and other physics at play that frick with them. Groove 101 MPH down the heart of the plate and watch any hitter worth his salt put that bitch into the stratosphere.

Now chunk 101 MPH with some nasty RPMs on it, and all of a sudden you got them in a pretzel. Same with the other pitches in the proverbial arsenal

Why do you think off-speed pitches, you know ~slower~ pitches, are so effective?

There comes a point where the human mind can't react to the speed of a fastball...A tipping point...
but that's always been the case...

And there's no evidence that pitchers are just going to outpace hitters in perpetuity. Arms aren't just going to be better because of the fallacy of human advancement in short time frames ( if we're playing baseball in 10,000 years...maybe we can talk about changing the rules but Gatorade and needle juice ain't going to get you there.)

Baseball has always tackled the yin and yang between pitchers and hitters.

Sometimes one is up, something one is down...and what does baseball do...lowering or raising the mound to even the field.

I think this is a silly idea, but at the same time, those who dispute the notion that professional sports, at a very large level, are as much about entertainment as they are about competition or achieving athletic excellence are also silly IMO.

And the product is not entertaining right now. And it’s not just about everyone throwing heat, although fans have always gravitated toward heat. IMO it’s why so many fans think Nolan Ryan, who IMO was the most entertaining pitcher of all time, is the GOAT when he ain’t even close.

I’ve said here before about analytics, the other great whipping boy for fans, they are designed to maximize the mathematical probability of a successful outcome. The problem is that maximizing the mathematical probability of a successful outcome can mean the product is less entertaining, and again you can’t escape that component of things.

I was futilely trying to keep people from posting that and instead have some discussion. Also, I didn’t say the people were simple-brained, I said that the response is simple-brained. We are mostly men here and shouldn’t confuse a criticism of a single act as a criticism of an entire person.

But in retrospect it was a stupid thread. I should have said something like 104 mph instead of 97, which was too low.

I think we can all agree that an average fastball speed of 105 mph is too high.
