Oh no. The Belgians are upset!
I like how they put the rule that says FIFA can suspend the enforcement of a disciplinary sanction first but then continue to how disciplinary sanctions come about.
If FIFA can suspend disciplinary sanctions, it seems clear that they can suspend it. Unless they're making an argument that FIFA can only suspend disciplinary sanctions that are deliberately imposed instead of automatically imposed. Which throws that entire notion on its head.
But hey, Europeans are a bit insane.

"The Royal Belgian Football Association (RBFA) is astonished by FIFA's decision to declare suspended United States player Folarin Balogun eligible to play in the USA–Belgium match on Monday, 6 July at 5:00 p.m. (Seattle time)."
"FIFA bases its decision on Article 27 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code. This provision states that the FIFA Disciplinary Committee may decide to suspend the enforcement of a previously imposed disciplinary sanction."
"However, Article 66.4 of the same FIFA Disciplinary Code clearly provides that a red card (sending-off) automatically results in a suspension for the team's next match, as has been the case for all previous red cards issued during this FIFA World Cup."
"Furthermore, and irrespective of the above, the decision is in direct contradiction with the provisions of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Competition Regulations, as set out in Article 10.5:
"If a player or team official is sent off as a result of a direct or indirect red card (second caution), they will automatically be suspended from their team's subsequent match. In addition, further sanctions may be imposed."
"The automatic nature of such a suspension was also explicitly reaffirmed in FIFA World Cup 2026 Circular No. 16, which was distributed to all participating member associations on 12 May 2026."
"The same rule is reiterated at every FIFA World Cup 2026 Match Coordination Meeting prior to each match and is included in all FIFA World Cup 2026 workshop presentations.
"In order to safeguard the legitimate rights of all participating teams and to protect the fundamental principles of fair play in our sport, both at this FIFA World Cup and at future editions of the tournament, the RBFA is investigating all potential options."

I’ve said it time and time again. But Trump is the kind of finding those niche relatively small things that people are passionate about and trying to fix. Other politicians should take a note

Clay Travis
@ClayTravis
Sources: President Trump, commerce secretary Howard Lutnick, and White House task force head Andrew Giuliani put together a team of elite lawyers — from outside the government — to challenge the Flo Balogun red card. Specifically they challenged the use of slow motion instant replay to give the red card, which they argued violated FIFA rules. The president also conveyed to Gianni Infantino, FIFA’s president, that the appeal had been filed and he believed the red card penalty was excessive. FIFA’s independent committee reviewed the decision and agreed the penalty was incorrectly given, rescinding it under their rule 27 authority.

I'm glad he is playing and he shouldn't have been expelled in the first place, but God, these guys just make up their own rules as they go. This is one reason I hate this sport and always will. Downvote away.

So much crying by Belgium and the rest of the world
It was a bogus red card
We played 40 minutes without our best player and scored and won anyway
Now the correct result has been given.
The rest of the world can suck it from the back.

As said on the soccer board I think had fifa just done this Thursday or at latest Friday a lot of this noise is a lot quieter.
I can’t really blame Belgium or any team who has been preparing one way to get the script flipped a day from the match. Any team including us would be pissed.
The issue is more in how they’re handling it like bitches.
