The Braves are working to add a starting pitcher, with less than 48 hours before the deadline. They’ve checked with the Mets regarding Justin Verlander but are not currently engaged in negotiations on JV.

Personally I’d love to see JV as a Brave.

Edit. - JP Morosi is legit. I miss Ken Rosenthal on the MLB Network but JP Morosi has been a good substitute.

AJSS for Verlander straight up with the Mets paying some of his salary?

Basically the same thing they traded Max for.

Surely we’d have to give up more since it’s within the division and Verlander has actually been good this year unlike Max.

They'd probably ask for a position player or another pitcher lower in the system.

Also if it leaks it's not gonna happen. AA doesn't deal in rumors.

It’s 2023.

In 2022 he went 18-4 with a 1.75 ERA, 0.83 WHIP and 185 strikeouts in 175 innings…oh and just happened to win his third career Cy Young award in a unanimous vote.

He had a slow start to this season but has found his form.

He and MS are both at $43.5 million for this season and next, and the Mets paid that down to $22.5 million total for the remainder of this season AND next for MS. Verlander is obviously pitching better, but does have a $37ish million player option for 2025 which weighs against that. AJSS is a similarly regarded prospect to L Acuna. I wouldn’t go too much beyond him as the centerpiece and a couple C guys.

Knowing that Fried is signed this season and next, I think you look at a two year “mini-window” to try to win another World Series.

You bring up good points and you're not wrong, but if you think the Muts are gonna deal Verlander to their archrival I have some oceanfront property in Arizona(to quote King George) for sale.

They'd ask for the moon.

We have no position players worth a shite on our farm.

If they pay some of his ‘24 salary, I’d do it. I think. We really need bullpen pieces more, though. Hmmmm.

Yep and I hope we are still focusing on that more than starters despite this report.

Right now our 7-8-9 out of the pen for the postseason is Jimenez-Minter-Iglesias. There's a lot of volatility in those three. I'd love it if we could get a better closer and bump Iglesias and Minter down to 7-8.

Thanks.

I didn't think we did aside from Vaughn

Grissom is a solid position player on the farm.

I could see a lesser deal for a guy like Jack Flaherty.

Elder + a minor leaguer or two gets it done IMO. Flaherty is a free agent at the end of the season.

I wouldn't do Elder for Flaherty straight up. Flaherty is a piece of shite and he is not the same guy he was in 2019.

Given how much AA values clubhouse chemistry, I highly, highly doubt Flaherty is on his radar.

I'm not giving away Elder, he's an answer and you don't deal those.

Plus I'm not sure about Flaherty's personality meshing in the Braves' clubhouse, especially after what happened a few years ago.

ETA: If they give up a pitcher it'll be AJSS.

If the Braves are courting Flaherty, I bet AA will go to Max and ask about him, they were high school teammates and they work out together in the OS. I'm sure if Max says he's good, then he could come here.

I forgot about the off-the-field stuff. Wasn't he the one that was complaining about the Chop?

No, he's the one who threw at Acuna multiple times with a double digit lead in a playoff game like a worthless pussy.

He also is an avid BLM supporter and fake SJW when he's a privileged white man. Basically the Shaun King of baseball.
