I think the signs are pointing to moving Grissom in a bigger deal.

We may do that, but I don't think bringing in Nicky Lopez is a sign of that.
It is a sign that Culberson will be DFA'd again.

Not on its face. But like we talking about in the other thread, the fact that he hasn’t played any LF this year has to point to the fact that they may not have a long-term plan for him. He’s a more valuable trade asset as a bat-to-ball MiF with low power (but the frame to grow) than he is a utility guy with low power. I hope we keep him, but he’s blocked right now as a SS/2B. If the plan was to turn him into a Chris Taylor type, they’re not developing him as that.
Unless they think he’ll turn into a viable SS next year and they can move Arcia. He’s an All-Star SS on a ridiculously low contract, under control through the end of ‘25. But Grissom is too good to be a back up MiF behind 2 guys who never take a day off.

I think if Grissom isn't traded tomorrow or Tuesday, we'll see him getting some OF reps in addition to SS/2B reps next spring.
Remember, it only took Riley like 10 days worth of LF starts after never playing in the OF before we called him up. It's not like it takes a full year to get comfortable in LF.
Hell, we did the same with Arcia in 2021... that didn't work out as well.

Padres just finished off a sweep of the Rangers, I really think they may (stupidly) hold on to Hader and Snell.

Totally agree. I think they wanted to leverage him as best they could this year in case the right trade popped up. And to see if Arcia could be an everyday SS. If the right trade doesn’t present itself, I think they do pivot and change directions on his development. But I was listening to Snit after the game today—they don’t believe in taking days off. Even as a super utility guy, that philosophy may prevent him from ever realizing his value in this organization. Will be interesting to watch for sure.

Braves need to go get Verlander. He gives you a legit #1 in the playoff rotation making every spot thereafter better.
Lol he’d be our number 4

LOL.
He's washed.

8 of our top 10 prospects are pitchers. Only one of them is off limits (AJSS) unless we're dealing for a multi-time all star and one (Dodd) or maybe two (Vines) of them have little to no value.
I think we'd be crazy to not deal at least three of the other five for some rental bullpen or rotation help.

The San Diego #Padres are sure starting to play like a team who doesn’t want to be broken up. They sweep the Texas Rangers and now are fully expected to hang onto closer Josh Hader and starter Blake Snell, after all. They are 5 games out of a wild-card berth.
This is no bueno.

It’s fine. Prevents us from doing something stupid. And part of the allure of Hader is preventing him from going to another team that we may face in the playoffs. Id take him staying in San Diego and us saving our prospects for the future or for somebody that’s under control another couple years.

He has a 1.43 ERA over his past 7 starts.
Don't think we will or should try to get him but I don't think he is "washed"

Yeah, definitely not washed.
Someone earlier in this thread said he would be our 4th best starter, which is laughable.
Regardless, the Mets aren't going to give us Verlander unless it was a deal that was incredibly lopsided in their favor.

Thanks. I stand corrected.
He has definitely turned the corner from earlier in the year when he was getting booed off of the mound in NY.
