ESPN

quote:

At least 100 players from roughly half of the NFL's 32 teams face fines and possible suspension for allegedly selling their allotted tickets to this year's Super Bowl LIX above face value in violation of league policies, multiple sources told ESPN.

Under an agreement between the league and the NFL Players Association, players who violated the rule will be fined 1½ times the face ticket value and lose their allotted tickets to the next two Super Bowls. If they are playing in the game, the players will have the chance to purchase seats.

...

The sources said that the number of players involved was "in excess of 100," some of whom have already accepted the fines to avoid missing games. A league source declined to identify the players and employees who had sold their Super Bowl tickets or their clubs.

Why are they getting tickets to begin with?

"Hey, here's tickets for you to go watch the championship you weren't good enough to play for"

Hell yeah I'm selling those

You’re kind of a dick if the NFL gives you tickets to give your fam and then you sell them for more than face value.

Why wouldn’t you use the opportunity to surprise the shite out of some random people? That would be so much fun.

That’s what I’m wondering. I didn’t know this was a thing. Does this extend to every active NFL player, practice squad members too? Interesting.

Those are all the tickets you see on StubHub for 5000 a piece.

They shouldnt get them anyway.............let the fans have decent priced seats.

They can sell them...at face value. I know a lot of guys say it's kind of an unwritten rule you don't go to the Super Bowl as a fan but a lot of guys will donate them to various charities, give them to friends/family/mentors etc.

What if they give them to someone else and then that person or group sells them?

Just hopelessly superstitious… why wouldnt you take an opportunity to be at such a great event as a perk of your job…every fan wants to go at least once and you’re actively choosing not to

I believe this is correct. Bought two from Willie McGinest (below face value) for the 1998 Super Bowl in San Diego.

NFL players are allowed to buy 2 tickets to the Super Bowl at face value, per CBA. It also stays they can't resell at higher value.

Idk, but the web says there are 1,696 active players, so that's at least 3,392 tickets.
