That guy is lucky to leave D'ville. I worked in that town for 23 years and the locals will start a rumor about anybody. I finally had enough of their crap and decided to leave. That decision was the best one that I ever made in my life. I made many friends with the locals, but the bad people in that town out number the good. I was single when I first worked there and the locals said that I was gay. I was a 22 year old who graduated from LSU. Marriage was the least thing on my mind. I had an affair with a female coworker and boy, did the tongues start flapping. My last rumor was really bad. I taught this black kid and I met his mother. The mother told me that she liked to fish and I told her that I did too. She invited me to go fishing with her and her son. I told her that I would. On Saturday I went into the projects to pick her up to go fishing. Most of the people in the projects knew me, so I never feared for my safety. Well, the tongues were really wagging. A female black co worker told me to stop going to the projects. She stated that she was black and she would never go there. I was branded and shunned by both black and white teachers. I finally had enough and resigned in the middle of October. I was hired three days later by Jefferson Parish. I feel sorry for the coach because I can imagine the stories the locals are making up about him. His best bet is to get the hell out of Dodge. If the locals don't like you, you're screwed.

Ascension Catholic also stopped letting people sit on the edge of the stage years ago and only the teams are allowed on the first row.

And as you said football players are running much faster going off the field than a basketball player (and in full helmets and pads)

This. I wasn't even a good high school player, but I almost ran into a special needs student in a wheel chair because he had wandered away from where he was supposed to be. I don't think people know how chaotic sidelines are when there is a sudden change in possession.

It is one of those places that is way too intertwined into everyday life than a high school should be but there are certainly factors that make it so. On this site especially, people talk about Ascension Parish and the constant power struggle from between the old old money that comes from Donaldsonville/ the surrounding areas versus Gonzales/Geismar. It starts and ends with the Ascension Catholic crowd, for its size and relative obscurity in the 21st century ACHS is all a lot of those people have to hold onto. Its where they went to school for 12 years as it starts in Pre-K and its where for a lot of them literally since the day they were born they hung out with one group of people from school, church, and the community. Outsiders as others have said be forewarned about going there and trying to understand it, its cult-like. This is coming from someone who has family from there and loved visiting the area, some of the nicest people once they get to know you.

Regardless, there’s more to this story.

Coaches don’t get fired for sideline passes. This coach didn’t get fired for sideline passes.

If it’s true that there is more to the story than what’s in that report, then Trosclair is an idiot for going to the media with his story. That will only make it worse once the truth comes out

They know and knew me. That town is evil. If you look at its history, a Catholic priest put a curse on that town. Just research that town from when it was actually started. I would never tell anybody to work there. I taught school there and my biggest mistake was not leaving when the majority of my friends left after year three. People on this board that went to Lowery Middle would know who I am. That west bank of Ascension Parish schools, is what is pulling down the scores of that parish. You can't teach a person whose mother is busy showing her friend a good time. I just pray that these people will wake up and give a damn about their child's education.

I have no idea about any of this but dude is a straight douche. When I heard he got this job I knew it was only a matter of time before he was banging a student

Coach had his chance to move on without burning the house down but HE chose a different path. He is a 28 year old with a 17 year old's mentality. I wish it wouldn't have come to this but it is HIS doing. Can't wait for the advocate tomorrow.

Settle down princess you are being over-dramatic.

Yes there is gosip in that town, just like most other small, old money, south Louisiana towns. But they are all still very nice, hard working and a shite load of fun and have never been anything but welcoming to me as an outsider from “north Louisiana”. Hell I have even been asked to play in the ACHS softball tournament.

To bring it back to the actual story, it seems that Drey was basically shucking his responsibilities as an AD and dicking off around the field house and with students. The administrationhad enough of it and let him go. Ballsy move to fire a two-time state runner-up coach, but at some point it’s on him to act like a goddamn adult.

Nailed it. He should have walked away, head held high, and gotten a new job with little fuss. At most just release a quick statement thanking the school and wishing best of luck.

You should never burn a bridge like this, regardless of how bad you were wronged. Causing drama like this isn't good for anyone.

FWIW this describes about 95% of HS coaches and about 99% of HS coaches that are 28 and under.

The entire story sounds about normal for a 26-28 year old HS football coach.

Lowery/DHS is a COMPLETELY different crowd than ACHS.

Definitely. Don’t think people realize that almost no one who attends AC would ever attend Lowery or DHS. People usually transfer from AC out to Assumption, EA, St. Amant or Dutchtown. Totally different crowd.
