#47 is a headhunter and was looking to knock out people the whole game. He lowers his head and launches almost every time he tackles. Look at the hit before halftime. He launched right into Burrows side leading with the top of his helmet. He was trying to break Burrows ribs, which he almost did. The dude is dirty and had to be thrown out. The hit was textbook targeting..

Exactly. Actually, I thought i was over it then there was an OSU video showing that Wade didn't lead with the crown and his head is in the right position. It made me sad all over

Scruffy may not like the rule, but it was 100% the correct call. I don’t see how that’s debatable.

Good call because they weren't the same once he left.

At the same time we were starting to wear Clemson down at that point.

Agreed. An automatic ejection is supposed to serve as a deterrent to tackling like that.

100% targeting is the right move like the one on the Clemson LB.

I would be more in favor of them allowing blind slide blocks again as long as there is not helmet to helmet.

The automatic ejection needs to go. That is, was, and will always be an insanely stupid rule.

1. that leads to subjectivity
2. the NCAA wanted a drastic reduction in targets - 15 yard penalty did not do this So..... we have what we now have.

We scored 35 points with him on the field(he literally missed the last pass to Moss only)

We scored 7 points without him

It didn’t change the game

This. It's a future lawsuit deterrent, period.

Players are learning not to do it EVER because of the rule as it is - well, at least most.

Yep. Should be two to get tossed.

I don't understand this sentiment. What if those 2 hits result in 2 LSU players going to the locker room with injuries?

You want to trade 2 players for 1?

the call isn't the problem, the rule is, it was one of the few things the refs got right calling it by the book

Protecting tacklers from paralyzing themselves is stupid?

I'm not a tiger fan, that targeting call was correct. You can't lead with the crown of the helmet, you can't spear people.

Normally I hate the rule

But this play specifically was why the rule isnt always bad. The Clemson player is very lucky he didnt break his neck. He turned his head into a flying missile

Targeting is the absolute worst rule in all of sports.

Aren't a lot of form tackles with your shoulder having your head down? I would imagine (as the tackler) that if you have your head up and someone makes a last second move you could have some serious health problems yourself. Often you see big hits where you lead with a shoulder and the head is down, and that seems fine, but if the offensive player moved over 6 inches then the helmet ends up there and it's a targeting.

It's a difficult rule. I'm not saying it's wrong, but it's just a hard one in a fast game. The Wade one from the Fiesta where he was below chest level then Lawrence dropped his head and this one should both be studied to see if there's a better solution. If not, I'm pretty fine with the rule for safety

No..it’s specifically taught under “heads up” tackling techniques. Your spine can’t be compressed much without significant injury particularly a break that damages the spinal cord. Your vertebrae can however bend incredibly, and your head can get rocked backward pretty severely without significant issue. (See car accidents). It’s much safer to keep your face mask up so that your head can deflect sideways or backwards on impact. Watch what Ryan shazier did and it’s the textbook reason why you don’t lower your head regardless of your pad level
