Wanting to protect player safety and prohibit hits using the crown of the head is fine.
The automatic DQ (at least for the 1st offense) needs to go.
Yep. As it stands right now the Stephens hit was the most dangerous one in the game, and it rightly wasn’t called. I hate looking for a flag when someone gets hit hard

There needs to be 2 levels. One with clear intent that results in an ejection. One that just happened because how fast the game is with no ejection.
The Oklahoma ejection against LSU was clear as day warranted.

That was a clear call, and what the penalty is meant for. He put his head down, stared at the turf, and jumped at the ball carrier
That isn’t an example of a bad targeting call. Actually, what he did was spearing and had been a penalty since the 1960s

Rules are rules.
If you don’t like the rules in place, that’s a different discussion.
The call wasn’t “awful” if you go strictly by the rulebook.

That is 100% the exact definition of targeting. OP is a mother fricking retard.
frick that noise
Punish it harshly if there is clear intent to target; don’t eject a player for a split second mistake.
There is a night and day difference between that call and the targeting call against Oklahoma, for example.

Basically you can't lower your head except for a RB, doesn't matter what your head hits.

They should treat targeting like the NBA treats flagrants. Two different types: one egregious and an automatic ejection, one just the penalty.

It’s meant to protect the defender as much as the offensive player. That’s how you break your neck, gotta teach the youngins.
