That safety is something I would do if I was playing my 9 year old nephew in a football video game and deep down wanted him to have a chance to still beat me.

has there ever been a game on this level of football where a team has been so scared that their long snapper would frick up so badly they decided a 30 yd loss for a safety was a better play than running the special teams out there

Instead of being down 5 and them playing for a TD to win App St is now only down 3 and is playing it conservatively for a long field goal. Plus it’s raining. Would be a tough kick. Worst case is OT over losing.

What I don’t get is why the safety was a better decision than trusting your bruiser running back to get 2 yards for a first down. The free kick only netted like 15 yards of field position from where it would have been with a failed 4th down try

Basically every high school uses that as their base punt formation nowadays. It’s hard to imagine he hasn’t punted some before.
