Another example of why I don’t understand how football keeps getting elevated in society

Every player constantly talks about career concussion numbers after they retire, we have a growing societal problem with mental illness, and the world is monetizing this sport and pushing children into as careers. The entire world witnessed this Hamlin incident and they still love the game?

I just don’t get it and I can’t support kids playing football ever. The sport needs to simmer away and people should focus on pushing education onto kids, not a violent sport.

Downvote away, the truth is the truth.

Your lack of understanding of something does not make the thing "wrong" or "bad" and it is pretty myopic to attempt to understand things from that perspective

This can happen in any sport. Do we have to revisit Hank Gathers?

How many thousands or millions of kids, teenagers, and college students played football this year? How many died? Everything carries risk, football is no different. But the game is fun to watch and play and it’s one of the last bastions of masculinity in this country.

The world? Thats people like me and you when we go to games, when we watch on tv, when we sign kids up for it, when we talk about it on here…

Some of us are old enough to remember when heavyweight boxing was an actual thing.

Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Norton, Spinks, etc.

Grown men just beating the shite out of each other...something they would go to jail for if they did it on the street...for entertainment.

Football is tame by comparison.

Everything in life has risks. Risks in football still seem pretty low overall considering how much football is played across all levels every weekend every fall for 100 years

great thread. You must be a really good person that cares so much about others. I am envious of your sympathetic nature

To be honest people shouldn’t be playing until middle school. 6 and 7 year olds playing tackle football makes me cringe.

This was obviously a very freak thing to have happened. Only one NFL player has ever died on the field.

If we cancelled every activity after tragedy occurred, we would never leave our house for anything.

Life is full of risks. Weigh them and live your life how you please.
