Football dramatically increases the risk of injury, specifically head injuries due to grown as a men on HGH and prescription meds launching themselves into each other for years.

It’s not a risk, it’s a self induced trauma that’s only a matter of time before it affects the individuals

Those grown-arse men are not being forced to play though. They are choosing to play because they love the sport and they make millions that they would never be able to make otherwise. It may not be the wisest thing to do, but it's what they choose to do.

Weird thread, what happened to Hamlin likely had nothing to do with the violence of football. He probably has an undiagnosed heart condition.

Every player constantly talks about career concussion numbers after they retire, we have a growing societal problem with mental illness, and the world is monetizing this sport and pushing children into as careers. The entire world witnessed this Hamlin incident and they still love the game? I just don’t get it and I can’t support kids playing football ever. The sport needs to simmer away and people should focus on pushing education onto kids, not a violent sport. Downvote away, the truth is the truth.

What’s changed in society is that a majority of people have come to believe that safety and preserving life (of any individual) is more important than how you live. They have become alienated from meaning outside of themselves.

The reason I added “of any individual”, is that when it comes to anonymous groups of people, everyone has gotten more callous. In fact, many people casually talk about needing to reduce the number of people in the world to a fraction of its current level to “save the planet”.

Good god let’s just ban everything that could be dangerous or make you fat.

Ken Block died on a snowmobile today.

I'm sure some here think they should be banned now. Even if they never ride one themselves.

Just like they never set foot on a football field.

Hell, I've done what killed Block. Jumping snowmobiles is a blast. Also rather dangerous.

In really rare instances, if you’re hit in the right spot during the wrong exact moment of your cardiac cycle, it can make the electrical conduction through the heart fail, causing your heart to stop beating.

We all have gifts. Some people are here to play sports. That's what *they* want to do, and a lot of us want to see it. Sports participants know the risks and choose to do it anyway. That's the definition of courage. Academics are not for everyone.

Sports have been around for centuries in one form or another. Football players are the modern day gladiators.

Sports are beneficial for huge numbers of people, not just those on a pathway to monetizing their athletic ability. I grew up in a rural setting long ago where football was absolutely glorified and emphasized. It wasn’t my favorite sport to play, but I still loved to play it.

Pushing your mind and body to the edge of what it can tolerate taught me a lot that I’ve carried forward in life. It is a brutally violent game, even at high school levels. But it is one of the greatest games ever created and a football team is a brotherhood.

Probably local and national tv ratings with MLS as “soccer”

Yeah buts it’s exceedingly rare and generally requires much more force than that especially to a padded chest. Think a fastball to the sternum, or kick to the chest in martial arts.

Commotio cordis is unheard of in football

Your pathetic using this ultra rare situation to grandstand. For most of the men football is the only way they could ever make life changing money for them and there families.

Construction work is also very dangerous should parents make sure there kids don't go into that field.

soccer will take over soon.

Soccer will never take over as long as the US is a first world country. The only reason soccer is so popular worldwide is because you can be dirt poor and fashion some old rags into a ball and practice soccer, its popularity has nothing to do with how fun it is to watch- which it isn’t.

As long as people can afford baseball mits, football pads, and basketball goals in their driveways, no one is going to waste their time on lame arse boring soccer other than wannabes in big cities who think it makes them look worldly

Football is more than just playing the games. The benefits for me outweighed the risks. How it feels to be in shape and how to get there, discipline, respect, brotherhood, I could go on. We may be surprised how much this sport has benefited our country by turning out men who may not have gotten these things otherwise.

And it was a good way to attract chicks, very important….

Soccer will easily overtake American football over the next 50 years.

IMO, soccer is a nastier sport than American football.
