How many games played for each in that time span? I love me some Andruw Jones, but it seems like Trout has been hurt an awful lot.

Trout played 1407 and Jones 1761.

Jones had a .263/.342/.497 slash line
Trout .303/.415/.587

Jones could really cover CF. He would play really shallow, he could backpedal faster than most could run forward.

Valid point, Mike Trout's last 6 season he's played over 119 games just twice (134,140) 596 games in total last 6 seasons averaging 99 games a season.

What is crazy is how Andruw Jones just crashed after his age 30 season.

Trout also has 200 more walks in almost 1000 fewer plate appearances and a much better track record on the basepath. I love andruw and want him in the HOF, but Trout is just way better at everything but fielding

He didn’t even back pedal much. He was the best I’ve ever seen at turning and running to a spot at the crack of the bat, turning around and waiting for the ball. As many highlight catches as he had, he could make the great play look routine.

He could play in shallow center and make diving catches running straight forward, but still not let anything get over his head.

He catches hell for his abysmal later years but when he was a Brave he played 161-162 games almost every season while taking a beating with his diving catches.

Watching Andruw Jones play center field was an absolute thing of beauty. He made it look effortless

Has to be a shitload of garbage walks to cause that kind of a gap

Because he accumulated the same stats in two fewer seasons, WAR is PA dependent

Jones was miles better defensively and Trout was miles better at everything else.

What made him truly special is he read flyballs off the bat better than anyone else I've ever seen. That allowed him to get to balls most other guys wouldn't have.

He got fat before he turned 30 and lost a lot of that, and I also think covering centerfield every day for 10 years took a lot out of his legs. He was special though.

I used to love catching late night sportscenter and seeing what kind of crazy catch Andruw Jones or Tori Hunter had that day.

LOL

Andruw jones career is as similar as it gets to Jim Edmonds, and edmonds, played in a pitchers park in st.louis for many of his years.

And i'm no Edmonds fan.

He also had shoulder problems stemming from his diving catches.

ETA: the comparison isn’t meant to say he’s about even with Trout. It’s just a reference point to show how good he was.
