Penalize each team for every ball put in play. Only homers, walks, and strikeouts

Why does everyone say this?
The best games I've ever seen have been WS pitching duels...where bunting the guy over or stealing a base to get in scoring position is a big play.
Gibson's Game 1 of the 1988 WS was 5-4...and 4 of those runs came on 1 swing of the bat by Canseco.
Game 7 of the 1991 WS was 4-3...with a pitching duel between Jack Morris and Smoltz.

I think the game would be better if they went to 6 4 out innings. Should increase offensive production and create more high intensity at bats while creating less stoppages in play. Will never happen

Yeah, no one is watching baseball, except old people. It's so dead.

Have you been watching Rich Eisen show? He pitched an idea to allow any players to bat during the 9th inning. Argument was no other sport has its best players potentially sitting out at the end if the game. His idea was dumb but not this bad.
Thankfully baseball has too much pride in their stats to ever consider rule changes that would drastically impact stats and completely change what is already the greatest game on earth.

Even this has holes. In football, you have stars on offense and defense, and they aren’t on the field at the same time for the same team.
In basketball, unless a game is coming down to the buzzer, a game ends in garbage time or foul shooting, not exactly riveting stuff.

The American league has already started down that base path.

It's the only way they can get their games down to 3 1/2 hours, down from 4-5 hours

Your idea has merit IF...
15 different players are required to bat in each game. That enhances the strategy required in who bats when.

Well while we are on the subject of dumb ideas that won't ever happen, let 'em pick which way they want to run the bases when nobody is on base, then everybody follows until the bases are cleared.
Make the 1B play 3B and vice versa. Make the lF have to make a RF throw (or make the defnse flip the fielders).

Your idea destroys all the great things about team building.
Gross.
Gross.

A lot of dumb things are said on this board. This might be the dumbest.

To the contrary, it allows teams to employ more defensive specialists. Their value rises when you can use them in the field without them hurting you at the plate.
So team-building, I would argue, could be a more interesting endeavor, not less, under my rules
