if Jon Daniels doesn’t make Joey Gallo the highest paid player in the history of american sports, I may have an aneurysm

Might be a cool gimmick for spring training. Not every game, but have some designated games that use the various alternate rules suggested in the thread.

The same things that make baseball boring also make it great. No clock, scouting, and managerial impact. The grind of the regular season resulting in slumps and outbursts. There's a romance to it all and sacrificing any of the nuances to make it more accessible would be a travesty.

Enforce pitch clock.
Allow 3rd strike on foul balls.
Somehow cut down on the pitcher trying to pick off a man on first 10,000 times.

How does one become stupid enough to think about a horrible idea like this?

How about this:
Batter gets allowed one foul ball after getting 2 strikes. On the second foul ball he strikes out.... However, to make it fair, he walks on only 3 balls.
This would speed up the game and probably make it higher scoring

Baseball only works, as it is. I've always said it's the best sport, when it's at its best.
When you have a 1 run game after the stretch and any misplaced pitch can tie it up or go ahead. That's tension to the highest degree.
I remember watching on TV, Game 7, Thursday October 16th, 2003 at Yankee Stadium...Pedro vs. the Yanks and then him being pulled for Wakefield to go extra.
That was the most intense sporting event I've ever watched. Ever watched. You could feel the tension oozing from the stands through the TV.
And Yanks won 6-5...and nobody cared about "scoring" for scoring...people care only about "the score."
Baseball people only care about are we ahead or not?
There's no reason to change baseball. People still like tension and drama that comes with subtlety.
We all don't need 65-55 college football games.

Game 7 of the 1991 WS was 4-3...with a pitching duel between Jack Morris and Smoltz.
It was actually 1-0

Stupid error. I was writing about the Dodgers and left that in.
It was 4-3 Athletics before Gibson, so I had that on my mind.
So even better - a plus inning game for the title won by 1 run. And everyone remembers it - the pitching performances. Nobody complains about lack of scoring.

why does everybody want to screw with baseball,

I agree with you. No matter what changes are made, the game will never be perfect. Someone will always find something to complain about.
Posted on 2/23/18 at 10:52 pm to gizmoflak
anyone advocating this is not a fan of baseball. go invent your own damn sport.

he best games I've ever seen have been WS pitching duels...where bunting the guy over or stealing a base to get in scoring position is a big play.
