An incredible situation for Southern Lab football

Their schedule for this season includes Carroll, Thrive Academy, and Capitol
All three teams have had their season shut down by the LHSAA for fighting
They already beat Carroll, but the other two are upcoming games that will now be forfeits.

Southern Lab still recruiting 1 player short of 2A so they can whip up on the little schools?

I think Kentwood still keeps a foot in their arse.

Your classification under LHSAA is based on HS student population, not the number of players. PreK through 12th grade has 479 total students. HS has 193. 2A currently starts at 231.
It's a small school. I have to assume it has a small budget. It also probably has limited staff and facilities to grow much more.

Capitol High was in our district when I played ball. They weren’t great but not terrible either. Roman Bates is turning over in his grave.

Southern lab will probably be the next team to get shut down for fighting.

Sometimes when I see shite like this I think about the fact that I’m sure there are some good kids on those teams who were maybe looking forward to their senior years of HS football, only to have it taken away from them because of a couple of individuals
I know all situations are different, but shite.. that would suck

Nationwide this stuff is out of control and some parents encourage it and excuse it. So here we are.

It was most of the team, the few were the ones not participating.

Southern Lab has been doing this for years. I am sure to be wrong about this but, Southern Lab may be the only "lab" school that is in 1A and has been in 1A for as long as I have been alive.
Everyone knows this.....
You would be wrong here. Not that they have an unlimited budget, but they could be a 3A school on par with other Laboratory schools like U High. They choose to keep their attendance in 1A.

Those are the only two lab schools in Louisiana that have a high school. Are you suggesting that Southern Lab has the same level of revenue and supporters as U High?
U High has yearly revenue of $17,595,000, Southern Lab, $11,737 per student. Their revenue is 51.3% Local, 45.9% State, 2.8% Federal
Southern Lab has yearly revenue of $5,715,000, Southern Lab, $7,640 per student. Their revenue is 62.8% State, 21.6% State, 10.2% Federal

The only other school that was a lab school is Lincoln Prep, which is now a Charter school, also 1 A.

I've heard that said about a private school in Lafayette that was not doing that. In fact, they had a plan to grow but were limited by space availability and the difficulty of hiring adequate faculty. They have since grown to 2A.
The bottom line is Southern Lab has always been a small school. They also do not have the alumni base that U High has for generating revenue. They may end up in 2 A at some point, but it will probably be because the line shifts down to meet them.
I would also add, do we really think that schools are manipulating their attendance simply to maintain where its athletics programs are positioned?

This is Louisiana, and Southern Lab was caught up in a massive cheating scandal a few years ago. We’re not putting nothing past nobody.

This is a very good point.

I know for a fact that it happens.

I assumed Southern Lab was small because few people want to attend a high school associated with Southern.

I’m sure that is why Grambling’s lab school was small before becoming a charter as Lincoln Prep.

Also, what’s this? Some charter school that (wink wink) really only exists for athletics?
