Am I the only one who thinks the dunk contest is so stupid?

It's complete stupidity. They hype it up like it's some amazing event but it's just guys doing kind of neat dunks. Extremely boring.

I knew it was broken when Blake Griffin "dunked over a Kia" years ago but he just jumped over the hood of the car and did a very average dunk, yet the crowd went nuts and they talked about it for days on sports media.

Complete farce, probably the worst part of an already dumb All Star weekend.

You jump over the hood of a Kia and dunk a ball.

I do not agree

Sometimes it's epic. Sometimes it's a huge letdown.

We had a couple of epic contests and more recently some duds

This weekend's was fun.

The worst part is the skills challenge. They need to axe that.

But they throw passes to a circular object!!!

Yea, that one is bad. 3pt contest is severely underrated IMO

the social media professional dunkers have kinda spoiled a lot of how awesome a good dunk contest can be

which is a shame because as a kid, the dunk contest was one of my favorite events

100% this

There are better dunks and now easily seen in the social media world than what we see in the dunk contest.

Back in, say, 2000 what you saw in the dunk contest was basically best dunks you'd find anywhere.

The dunk contest was probably a year or two away from going on hiatus but then zach Lavine and Aaron Gordon had two of the best dunk contests in history in back to back years.

Then had another run of bad ones before this weekend.

Definitely not good when you're hitting on 1 every 3-5 seasons or whatever it seems like. I'll still watch all of them because I grew up on it and will just always watch that and the 3pt contest.

I hate that I agree with Peej, but this is outside of a DAT thread. Those two were my favorites growing up. I would stay up for SportsCenter for their highlights.

Dunk contest and home run derby are the only two all star events worth a damn.

age 11 to 14 we had dunk contests on the 8 ft rims at the middle school. it gets old after a couple.

i dont like it.
its so easy for 6 5 guys they have to have props to make it interesting.

i hated the all star game.
no defense.
boring watching open dunks.

This board has seriously just become an avenue for people to bitch about sports. You don't like it? Great, don't watch it.

The whole event is just a weekend marathon woke convention. I watched XFL that was actually exciting. And no one tried to woke me either, so refreshing!

This is an example of the spoiled dunk. It wasn't an overly difficult jump, but it also wasn't an easy dunk. They also probably shouldn't have parked it partially under the rim too

The one I didn't like was how everyone went nuts when Howard jumped so high that he slammed the ball down without touching the rim; but the reaction for the guy that blew out the candle on the rim basically "ok cool".

That's what did it for you?

Not the press release the NBA put out with Blake as the Slam Dunk Champion...before the dunk "competition" took place.

The 3 point contest needs to be some sort of relay like you see in the Olympics with swimming and track and field. One leg hurts you.

8 teams of 4 with an undetermined timer. Have two heats at a time at each end of the court.

Top 4 teams advance. Then top 2 to finals.

People who watch dunk contests are the same ones who watched the Pro Bowl.
