ACC just unveiled a ridiculous schedule setup for 2026

For the upcoming season, which the ACC is calling a "transition year," 12 of its 17 schools will play nine conference games, with Clemson, Georgia Tech, Florida State, North Carolina and Boston College playing just eight. Those five teams each have multiple Power Four opponents already scheduled outside the conference.

Four ACC schools -- Clemson, Florida State, Georgia Tech and Louisville -- have an annual rivalry game against the SEC, and while Louisville AD Josh Heird said his school is eager to play a strong schedule each season, the other three initially balked at the lack of scheduling flexibility that would come with a nine-game conference slate and an annual nonconference game against their SEC rival.
Their conference champ game tiebreakers are going to be a cluster frick

Only hurts them so who cares

Tiebreaker should just be whoever is ranked higher by committee.
Would have fixed the mess this year

Eh offhand I know Clemson plays LSU and USCe off hand. FSU plays Bama and florida.
Making them play an extra conference game is an extra chance for them to pick up a loss.
It helps the ACC to keep them in playoff contention.
Smart move.
The SEC was dumb moving to 9 conference games.

SEC should probably get rid of the Power 4 game requirement

Does everyone just hate watching big games?
There’s should be ONLY power 4 out of conference games.

What a joke. Acc won’t be missed when it goes under.

No...but there's also no bigger regular season game than a playoff game. The committee has proven over and over again that it values the number in the loss column a great deal. The big 10 and SEC are pretty equal at the top. The difference is that the talent is a lot more spread out in the SEC- thus it's more of a meat grinder and you can't take weeks off. If you look at 10-16 in the SEC standings- it's LSU, Kentucky, Florida, Auburn, MSU, South Carolina, Arkansas.
The ones in bold have guaranteed first round picks on the roster right now. 4 of those teams are in the top 20 in 4 year composite recruiting rankings.
UCLA
Rutgers
Wisconsin
Maryland
Michigan State
Purdue
That's the comparable bottom in the Big 10. It doesn't make a lot of sense for the SEC to schedule another losable game, when your whole conference slate is a losable game. The B1G homers can dispute that all they want, but go listen to what Caleb Downs had to say about it.

Lmao
1) with 12 games plus ccg weekend all against high major competition, the playoffs might as well be played in a hospital with all the walking wounded. There is nothing wrong with a team getting a breather now and then against the grind of a ridiculously difficult schedule
2) if that were the case most non p4 programs would fold and cease to exist. Their entire athletic departments are sustained by the massive payouts they get to be someone's sacrificial lamb. It's a win win for both sides

Because it's the shitty ACC, none of it will matter

The idea is that all the conferences do that so schedules are more or less equal across the P4

The leadership in the ACC is absolutely pathetic. It's like every year, they intentionally come up with some new idea that will frick over the conference

Meh. With as big as conferences are now I want 10 game conference schedules. Leaves one game for a traditional out od conference rivalry id your school has one and one game to throw a bone to a directional state school who needs the rent-a-win income.

Wait, you think that 247 sports recruiting rankings and a first round draft pick on bottom feeder teams that often got stomped makes every game losable?
The bottom of the SEC is trash, just a little less trashy than the bottom of the Big Ten.
LSU had a moribund offense, bottom feeder shite, embarrassing futility for a roster loaded with blue chip guys. Couldn’t score at a bar filled with ugly drunk broads at 1:45am—and they’re a cut above those others as a team.
Kentucky, got blown out a ton, then they blew out Florida, who also got stomped a ton, but actually beat a ranked team. Lost to South Florida.
Auburn and Mississippi State lost a lot of close games, but good teams capable of giving you Ls don’t go 5-7 with 4 games against patsies.
South Carolina Arkansas = dogshit.

frick that.
Tie breaker should be H2H and like opponents first

The ACC has no idea what they’re doing. They couldn’t even protect their ACC Champion playoff spot by helping SMU out at Cal the last week of the season.

The ACC standings are a joke. Often times teams have like 2 common opponents.
Conferences need ideally full round robin (or extremely close to it) to make any sense. With 12 team conferences we had that.
These 16+ team conferences with no divisions have ridiculous schedules.

Can’t wait for some 7-2 team getting left out of the CCG in favor of a 7-1 team that they hold H2H over

The biggest lie in sports is that a SEC schedule is a meat grinder. That is a joke. Bama lost to FSU and UGA beat GT by a TD. I sure didn’t see any ironing sharpen iron. The SEC has UGA and a bunch of average teams and a bunch of low level teams. Once again you guys will go silent when the playoffs bare this out.
