Are you under the impression this isn’t the case
Yes, I am. I know of players who hardly set foot in class.

Oh, look, an attempted insult by a poster everyone recognizes as miserable and insecure because of their short stature and mindless job at HR Block. You should consider therapy.

And if they get caught, they ought to get the death penalty the first time.

Not going to happen. The SMU death penalty was before major conference television deals. The fallout from what happened to SMU was the death of SWC. The death penalty now for any program would cause serious issues with television deals & conference scheduling. This whole transfer portal & NIL topic causes so many to have irrational thoughts & opinions without seeing the entire picture.

Our value system as a society is messed up when sportsball players in their teens make 10 times more than the people who make the world go ‘round.

Sorry, I didn’t care when they weren’t making any cash. It’s not my fault these guys didn’t value an education, access to excellent training facilities, chef cooked meals, and a platform to make the NFL.

If that’s jealousy, so be it. If you wanna be a male cleat chaser and worship the ground they walk on, be my guest.

ETA: they also have access to tutors whenever they need it, and the troublemakers will get treated with kid gloves and given more chances than a regular student.

The people who were screaming from the rooftops for players to get paid acted like there werent going to be major issues.
Serious question: what are the major issues? I understand that YOU might not like some aspect of it.

But from what I can tell, this season has been exciting and the playoffs are set to be such also.

If you didn't know about NIL you would have had no idea just watching the games.

frick the tv networks. They have a great portion of the blame for how ridiculous college sports are now as well.

NCAA going hog wild with the TV deal $$$$ in the early 2010s is responsible for the mess we are in.

I’d blame the power conferences… the NCAA doesn’t really have much to do with football

More like Texas and A&M and Arkansas didn’t stand to make big money with a conference of just Texas teams, half of which were G5 quality at the time. Other conferences were bigger money.

the new NIL clearinghouse, a Deloitte-run operation

There are plenty of case studies on how the (once Big Eight, then Big Six, now Big Four) auditing firms don't even do the most basic of tests to verify compliance. Enron, Worldcom, ZZZZ Best, to name a few.

So, THEY are going to police things?

The solution is to quit watching and supporting all these moneyball sports. There are other sports lacking in funding and eyeballs that could use fans.

It's not a good thing that there are no cohesive teams anymore and every single player is a one year mercenary every year being sold to the highest bidder.

That's even more broken than it ever was before.

Unfortunately, it extends to the music industry and entertainment in general. That’s the world we live in. Obviously, we value entertainment, and many professionals put their body through some serious shite. I respect that.

The trickle down to college is where it’s getting out of hand. I maintain that these football players are not driving fans to games, rather it’s the brand of the university. That said, these players help create the brand.

It's been broken for a long time. We're simply in the midst of the establishment of a minor league of football due to the perceived high demand for the sport. The uniqueness of college athletics is the casualty of this change.

Blame Georgia & Oklahoma for suing the NCAA back in 1984 for the institutions & conferences to have the right to negotiate their own television deals. Their lawsuit & ultimate victory in court opened up the doors for the television deals we see now. Prior to the lawsuit the NCAA negotiated all television deals for collegiate athletics.

It did not help that the other SWC members lost an entire conference opponent which caused those schools to scramble to find schedule replacements.

FIFY

By the NCAA had no authority over television deals. The power to negotiate television deals were in the hands of the conferences themselves.

Exactly. It was always remarkable how dismissive people were of the value the players were receiving by being scholar ship athletes. People had the audacity to call them slaves when you have people clamoring to be in the position to have full rides to college. It’s a joke

College football sucks these days….ill watch a game but no longer do we spend all day tailgating and at game then fight traffic.

Watch a game on tv and have the rest of the Saturday for myself and family. Some weekends, we did not even watch a game.
