Thats interesting, just the other day someone was saying they think Marcus Thornton is a better player than Larry Bird. I guess they are right.

Bird won a couple of 3 pt contests.
Best of era.

He had McHale and the chief to pass to down low.

He'd do just fine today.

Would you take any of them over Larry Bird?

Shows you how much the NBA sucks now - it's a Rec league, anybody can score from anywhere with this slag-off zone defnse. Gotta give the shooter a nice 5 foot cushion to get his shot off.

I wonder if one team would've been willing to break the trend of post scoring and moved to primarily shooting 3's much earlier if they could've dominated the league.

This is a "better vs greater" type of discussion.

There are many players today that are better shooters but Bird was far ahead of most of his peers. He was greater for his time.

So?

Threes were considered low percentage shots in the 80s

Look we get it. You aren't very smart.

But he's not criticizing Bird. He's simply commenting on how the strategy of the game changed.

What we have found out in these last 5 years is 3 point shooting is actually a really low level skill.

I mean it makes sense. It is a standard distance from the goal and many times the guys are shooting them unguarded. It is a skill that can be improved with just practice.

the percentages probably wouldn't have been good enough before the Curry era...

3 is only better than 2 if you make it

Larry Joe Bird is the greatest NBA player of the 1980s and, in my estimation, one of the 5 greatest NBA players of ALL-TIME

Not arguing with you over the subjectivity of the aesthetics of a player's shot, but form-wise Klay Thompson and Davis Bertans are two modern players with ridiculously flawless shooting form, IMO.

Bird would have their heads fricked up before the first shot.

Same.

It went right over the head of basically everyone in this thread, though.

There was a reason I nicknamed him the Man Crush that Series.

But someone other than listed in this thread that had a great shot is Steve Alford. May be the best ever.
