IMO Johnson is the best pitcher in the state.

Did he have grade issues? When you say a Co-Lin commit is better than LSU commits throwing 95 from the left side, grades is the first thing I think of as to why. Just wondering.

There are plenty of good arms in NJCAA baseball that didn't have PBR/PG baseball pimping them like the usual suspects.

Go Juco and get guaranteed innings and continue to hone your skills for when it is time to move on. Jay right now is caught up in the 95+ but that proved wrong this year.

I witnessed this past fall a 6'-8" guy throwing 97 at Northwest Mississippi CC. In Region 2 tournament, my son's team faced a dude throwing 90-94 with ease. Even a kid on my son's team has hit 96. Some are probably due to grades while others just didn't get recruited. Some of it is doing well on the right day when someone is looking.

No. Close to 4.0 from what I’m told. Bc he doesn’t throw 95 he didn’t get looks.

He pitched against every top pitcher in LA and looked better. I hear he’s now getting some D1 calls. Baffles me he hasn’t signed with a bigger school by now.

Also not taking anything away from Cupid. He is a complete dude.

Just watched this kid pitch all year and he was a difference maker in dutchtown. 4 pitches and velo is increasing
Up to 93. Hell this week threw 112 pitches then came back in 4 days and threw a 3 hitter ok 100+ pitches.

My son played with him growing up so been following.

Being ranked top 12 rhp in the state is a long way from being overlooked.

Probably by SLC LL producing too many players that good kids were being cut by Barbe… so they had to go somewhere. But that point is incorrect because it’s more than just the Big Two in Calcasieu… Sulphur was the #9 seed, Westlake won state, and other schools there are good too

It’s really just the growth of SWLA is going North into Moss Bluff and Ragley and south which is Barbe still. But it turned SH into a 5A school and South Beau into a 3A school and both are still growing. But SH is one of the smallest 5A schools in the state. Barbe is still a great school but it’s over crowded and land locked. The only reason another school hasn’t been built south of town is Barbe baseball. The golf course in Westlake has helped that school a ton also. And the city invests in the facilities for the school.

But 85-90% of kids go to public schools in SWLA. That’s not the case in the rest of the state. It’s not bc people can’t afford it. Just that our public schools are still really good. St. Louis Catholic is about to build a new campus and it’s the only private school option for baseball now.

But as LSU777 has said. It’s the coaches and commitment to year long development. It’s the culture of the community to own their own development. Barbe created it. Now others are following it also. The formula for winning 5A state used to be 2 quality arms. Now it’s pitching depth. Gotta have 4-5 arms to win 3 games.

Gavin Foreman at #10 is a joke. That guy is a good, not great, HS pitcher.

Definitely no knee in the nuts or anything egregious from the baserunner as some were touting

He goes to the inside of the bag on purpose to crowd the 1st baseman which is likely taught by his coach (kinda douchey) but it’s nothing that bad

1st baseman just kinda goes crazy

It looks on purpose to me as well, and agree it's something he's probably been coached to do. The runner definitely initiates contact and could have been warned or called out for it. I wouldn't have ejected him for his part unless he'd been warned previously. The 1B is an auto-eject for his part, although I sympathize with his frustration.

This is the kind of stuff Barbe and Zachary used to be known for in the past. Zachary actually had two separate brawls against St. Amant and Teurlings years ago on plays similar to this. It's basically antagonize your opponent until he overreacts, and it usually works like it did here. This is where good proactive umpiring will know what to look for and nip it in the bud.

I’ve seen it taught to go in standing up like the runner from Sam Houston did when a 1st baseman is straddling the bag.
However Dutchtown’s 1st baseman was not straddling the bag which makes what the runner did absolute BS.

so i dont have a dog in the fight....

I was pulling for dutchtown and the SH kid did look like he kneed him in the nuts but the Dtwon kid did over react but i actually enjoyed it, not gonna lie

but jesus christ the dutchtown people are whiny as frick. the louisiana scoreboard guy whines about everything. he is still posting about how SH whole team should have been thrown out

he is still whining about barbe saying they recruit and have tons of kids from out of zone and out of state....which is 100% false.

then went on to claim how SH and Barbe shouldnt even be allowed to play as they arent true public schools etc etc.

it gets old as frick and the AP schools whine so fricking much about everything. SO in the end im glad SH kicked their asses because the Dtown people have become giant pussies about everything.

you had a great run and should be proud but stop whining acting like yall are perfectly moral school that should be the model for others. the holier than thou attitude is annoying AF.

Same here. This gif is literally the only bit of Sam Houston or Dutchtown baseball I've seen all year.

Connecting dots, I'm guessing Sam Houston used to get bullied by Barbe with these types of tactics, so they started fighting fire with fire and now they play the same way. Of course I'm only seeing one play and making a lot of assumptions..

I don't know who louisiana scoreboard guy is but I'll take your word for it. If he's a Dutchtown guy he might be feeling like this was their last shot with Prairieville taking a lot of the baseball neighborhoods from their attendance zone.

pretty much. I will say the travel kids in SWLA do not play as many games in the summer/fall for the most part. They train a lot more than the BR kids, especially the nola kids

and whoever said its mainly barbe and SH are 100% wrong. Go check the number of champions or runner ups from the metro area since covid. The metro has less than 300k and you have championships from

Barbe
SH
Iowa
St Louis
Westlake
Dequincy
South Beau

and

grandlake has 2 runner ups
Sulphur has consistently been really good
Vinton and Welsh have had deep runs
Kinder has been very good too

the biggest thing is coaches and year around training(i didnt say playing) and its a culture where your best players are expected to play. Many times the travel teams, especially by 12 are mainly compromised of kids going to 1 school. some are mixed but its similar. Sulphur has the Tornado Athletics team that feeds them, prospects has turned into a feeder for Sam Houston, Welsh has WAR, Iowa has very strong middle school program etc. many of the kids too will go play 16u HS ball in the summer between 7/8th grade

We have some really good training in this area too for pitching. You have Wade Leblanc, DC Arceneaux, Jared Gothreaux, Dillon Carrol are all great pitching coaches. then you have Trahans "the U" up in kinder and then you have Jordin Griffins dad doing S&C

if you are in LC and want your kid to go to a good school, you really only have the choice to send to Barbe, SH and St Louis. St Louis hasnt finished new school yet and Barbe and SH both have good academics, especially AP programs. Westlake is good school as is sulphur AP so parents are able to send kids to public and still be fine.

Also with the growth of the LNG and petrochem industry in the area over the last 15 years, you have had a lot of families that are more affluent and can afford all the baseball training move into the area.

i have never seen barbe go to the front of the bag like that but Ill be honest....Chad prolly does teach that and its damn smart baseball. It cuts the fielder off from free movement at the angle he needs to get to so he can receive the ball from pitcher correctly. If schools are smart, they will start teaching that too as its advanced base running. Maybe Barbe did do that in the past, i dunno. But Chad watches a lot of film and is a really really really good and smart coach, so wouldnt be surprised if he started it his own. I think people dont give him enough credit for the type of coach he is.

yea he is a dutchtown guy...its constant whining from him and others on that page. after the barbe series the constant chirping about needing to find a new recruiting coordinator and saying they need to find new kids form texas etc. when its all BS.

Barbe has Zaylon who moved from Stonewall in North LA to LC at the beginning of 7th grade and Talon who is from texas that moved here but talon was zoned for a powerhouse team in texas and it was a legit move. only other kid on the whole team that moved in is Littleton and they moved to LC from sulphur.

Barbe as a school as a whole does take out of zone kids though because the alternative is making the kids go to lagrange and LG doesnt offer many AP classes and is terrible demographics, academics and behavior issues.

SH takes out of zone too for same reason

so long as the kids followed the rules and actually moved legit or they dont play varsity sports freshman year its within the rules. now starting next year, if you are accepted by the school, auto eligible to play right away

but you would think a school like dutchtown understands kids moving in and out of zone considering tons of people move to the AP for the school systems.

Not going to get into what’s right and wrong, who’s whiny, etc.
I was one of the closest people to first base. He was kneed in the nuts 4 times before this. Go look at the other angle from the one posted here. It’s clear that they were being coached to do this. He asked for the ump’s input. Ump did nothing. This time was a knee to the nuts and an elbow in the chest. The umpire failed him. He did what he did and received consequences by getting ejected. This is a kid that you are continuing to talk about.

The 1B seemed to already have it on his mind, which tells me they had been doing something he didn't like beforehand and was ready to roll if it happened again.

the contact was not unavoidable. The runner should be called out. The contact from R1 is interference.

But no one was kneed in the nuts on this play

You are probably right. Thus he let his emotions get the better of him. If it was continual, as stated, and contact was being made it becomes a problem and in my mind should have been addressed via the rule book by umps, no contact….it is absolutely nothing to it. First basemen need to learn the gift of fun shite talk when folks are being punks.
