No question everything is watered down since the split. 5A public is the worst, no private schools to have to compete with, strong public school teams like Acadiana, Carencro, etc. have to play in the select bracket, they are mixing in 4A teams in the 5A bracket. Still have to beat a few good teams to win it all, but not anything like it was pre-split.

Catholic may beat these schools in regular season. But could never win without the spit .
Sprinkle on a little of Acadiana every now and then. The 5a public’s are dead now. They self owned themselves

Belle Chasse: Anyone know more than what you can gather by looking at their schedule? Beating Shaw is scary. Barely beating Opelousas isn’t. Seems their defense is really good. I know they have a good 3/4 d tackle/te.
Their best player is Savion Barthelemy. Plays both ways but is a GameChanger on d-line. 3 star prospect that signed with Washington State. BCs QB Amari Ambrose is a phenomenal athlete but doesn’t complete many passes. Can make one cut and be off to the races. BC also has a RB named Dylan (sp?) Carter that’s a beast as well. Like Clean said, they play smashmouth football. Have 6 shutouts on the year and control the clock with their running game.
For the Opelousas game, a lot of the team was out with the flu including some of the o-line and d-line... The starting RB was out with flu-like symptoms and it really changed things. Opelousas also looked way better than their record. Their QB was legit
The defense carries this team, and the offense capitalizes on good field position when they can.
Should be a great game. Good luck to both teams

At one time, Ohio made schools that could take kids from areas other than their own play up, instead of having a split. That didn't please people either.
Ohio still has competitive balance.

quote:Most states do some type of multiplier formula to determine what classification select schools play. Louisiana should try it. For some reason the LHSAA members have never voted on making teams that allow kids from other areas play up (select schools). When it comes up, it seems like there's always a vote for doing or not doing the split, and that's the only option offered.
Ohio still has competitive balance.
Here's an old Cleveland,com article about what each state was doing.
quote:
Compilation of how all 50 states handle competitive balance
Scott Patsko, cleveland.com
CLEVELAND, Ohio – In 1999, the debate over how public and private school athletics should coexist in Georgia took a turn.
Fittingly, a high school debate team played a large role.
House Speaker Tom Murphy introduced a bill requiring all private schools to be bumped up a classification and forced to play larger schools. At the root of Murphy's bill was his hometown public school, which was having a hard time getting past private rivals. Among the struggling programs was the debate team, coached by Murphy's daughter-in-law.
The bill passed the House, 129-45. Passage in the Senate seemed very likely.
The Georgia High School Association, which oversees sports (and activities such as debate), scrambled to find a compromise. What it came up with was a multiplier formula. Already in use by neighboring Alabama, the formula multiplied private school enrollment by 1.5, causing many to be placed in a higher GHSA classification.
By 2011, the multiplier formula was in use by half a dozen states, and the Ohio High School Athletic Association was trying to join the group.
It's still trying.
It goes on to list what each state was doing.

...the formula multiplied private school enrollment by 1.5, causing many to be placed in a higher GHSA classification.
Definitely interesting concept, but how would that work with the single sex schools?
Would it be effectively enrollmentx2x1.5?
So 300 students at a single sex school would become 900?
300x2=600x1.5=900 (4A school)
Or would it be enrollmentx2 + enrollmentx1.5
So, 300 students at a single sex school would become 1050?
300x2=600 + 300x1.5 = 450 = 1050 (5a school)
I think common sense would say option 1 (enrollment x 2 x 1.5), but I put nothing past our state to find the wonkiest way to do it, especially if it forces schools to play even higher.
