Bearman's car is not ready for the start of FP2.

They are going to try to get him out later in the session.

Doohan is still ahead of Gasly, on the same tires. This might be the most surprising thing so far.

Ferrari setting the pace now. Sharl is 0.5 sec clear of the non-Ferrari field. Ham is 0.4 sec behind.

The Williams and VCARB drivers are driving very confidently.

Red Bull does not look well.

Why is Hadjar driving so well but Antonelli and Lawson are so far behind their teammates?

Lando to P1. Clears Yuki by 0.2s.

Piastri to P4, 0.2s behind Yuki.

Max aborts his hot lap. The Red Bull is not handling well.

Hadjar to P5, just 0.036s behind Piastri.

RB sandbagging? Or are they really in trouble this year?

Definitely not sandbagging. After everyone did their soft tire qualy sims (doing one or two hot laps), they settled into doing long runs on mediums. Max gave up a lot of laps to have them do a setup change to the front end to try to get the car to handle better.

Look at this crazy, unexpected FP2. VCARB had a very good session, they went fast and did a lot of laps. Hadjar is doing a real good job staying close to Yuki.

But why are Antonelli and Lawson so far behind their teammates? Look at Hulk in the Sauber, great job! Williams did not look as good in FP2. Doohan is still ahead of Gasly, that was totally unexpected, considering that everyone was wondering if Doohan was going to lose his seat quickly to Colapinto. Haas looks like crap, when we thought Sauber was going to be the clear last place team. Bearman did not get on track at all after his FP1 shunt. A really bad weekend for Haas so far.

My prediction for this race looks terrible.

I hope this is sarcasm. It's been literally two practice sessions.

I didn’t get to watch FP2 live but so far the better than expected surprise of the day for me was Hadjaar. He was pushing Yuki.

Not as good as expected has to be Antonelli. After all the hype I expected him to be close to Russell.

Upside surprise: Hadjar and Doohan. No one said much about Hadjar in the off-season, although he did have a good test at Abu Dhabi. And there was the feeling when Alpine brought Colapinto onboard, that Doohan's days were numbered before he even turned a wheel in 2025. He finished ahead of Gasly in both sessions.

Then there is the over-hyped Antonelli, the not-buzzy but accomplished Bortoleto, and the "we-promoted-the-right-guy" Lawson. All three lagged their teammates. Which wouldn't be so noticeable except for the performances of Hadjar and Doohan, as well as Yuki, the one who lost the promotion to Liam.

Edit: Oh, and then there's Bearman. Hard to compare him to his teammate when he spent most of Friday in the garage.

We should do a side bet each week on who is going to bin it first in practice.

So this year, that's an easier bet to make. Guaranteed we will hear after a few races that some teams have effectively given up on this season and will put 100% of their development resources towards 2026. Honda did this in 2008 and delivered to Brawn a championship-winning car. Apparently the rule changes are drastic enough that teams feel that 2026 is an opportunity to shake up the order. I can see Haas, Sauber, and Aston Martin giving up early. I think Alpine, Williams, and VCARB continue to fight, with several upgrades.

Aston Martin would be well served to be awful this year, give Newey more time to design next year's car.

Interesting read on how Ham is working at mimicking Chuck's driving style to maximize the Ferrari.
