So out of the current drivers with wins
Hamilton, bottas, and George got theirs with Mercedes
Max, Danny Ric, and checo got their wins with red bull
Leclerc, sainz, and Fernando’s most recent win we’re all with Ferrari
Lando and Oscar with McLaren
Gasly with alpha Tauri
Ocon with Alpine

Of course everyone knows Hulk is the world champion of race starts without a podium,
Mind blowing as he is obviously talented.
We need one of those races where the front three rows take themselves out in the first corner at a track where the Haas is fast.

You know Max is gonna drive Lap 1 like an a-hole if he has to start in 12th

Would be hilarious if Max DNFs and Sergio comes in out of the points, Mclaren goes 1/2. That would basically bring Mclaren within 10pts of RB going into break.

So there was one thing confusing me about the procedures in Hungary. Yuki crashed in Q3, and my first thought was, at least he didn't crash in Q1 (snicker), and at least he'll still start the race in the top 10. But I forgot that it depended on what they had to replace on the car, there was still the possibility that he'd have to start from pit lane.
On Sunday I read that he will keep his grid position, so I knew it turned out OK. But later I saw the list of changes. I saw that the powertrain components were replaced by previously used units, so that was good. But I also saw on the list that the survival cell was replaced. This is obviously a major component, but apparently as long as it's the same spec as the one being replaced, there is no penalty.
Today I saw this article, which is translated from Japanese, that explains what happened. It turns out that replacing the chassis gave them the time needed to prepare the new car. Parc ferme rules prevent changing the setup and components, but the "Car Covers On" rule dictates when you can do legal work on the car. By changing the chassis, the "Car Covers On" rule no longer applied and they could work later into the night to finish the work. And that's what allowed them to get the work done.

When the RB staff saw the car of Yuki Tsunoda that crashed during the qualifying for the 13th round of the F1 Hungarian Grand Prix on Saturday, they immediately decided to replace the monocoque. This was not only because there was a possibility that the monocoque had been damaged, but also because they had to consider the work that would be required afterwards.
Chief race engineer Jonathan Eddles explains: "The rules regarding 'car covers on' after qualifying have changed this year, and the 'car covers on' rule no longer applies if you change the monocoque." 'Car Covers On' is when the car is covered, and there is a set time period during which touching or working on the car is prohibited even if the curfew does not apply. At the Hungarian Grand Prix, this was 7:15 pm after qualifying.
However, the team decided that it would be impossible to repair the car in time for the start of Sunday's race, so they chose to carry out the work legally by replacing the monocoque. So RB used their secret weapon to finish the race car without breaking the rules: cover the crashed car and install a used power unit in a spare monocoque behind it. The work was completed by 11:00 pm on Saturday.
However, the setup work took place until just before the start of Sunday. Honda Racing (HRC) trackside general manager Shintaro Orihara said: "Usually on Sundays, the car covers are released at 10:00 am, so you only need to come to the circuit between 9:00 and 9:30 am, but this time the engineers came at around 8:00 am to set up the race car that the mechanics had worked so hard on the night before. While you can't touch the car until 10:00 am while the car covers are on, you can work on the computer in the engineering room."
After 10:00 am, the team began putting the same setup as that used in the qualifying round on the race car, which was fitted with a spare monocoque and a used power unit. The work was finally completed just before 2:00 pm, one hour before the start of the formation lap.
When asked why he stuck to the same setup, Eddles said: "If we change parts or settings, we will violate parc ferme and have to start from the pit lane. We really wanted to start from 10th place. That's why we replaced the upgrades we introduced this time with brand new ones."

quote:Agree, but I don't think it's because of a lack of podiums - what matters is how they've performed relative to their respective teammates.
Zhou and Sargeant are probably at the end of their F1 careers already.

This article says Red Bull are the first team to cross 5 million euros in repairs this season. 3.79 million euros for Perez alone.
Red Bull has spent 300,000 more euros on repairs than Williams this season.

Official, Max with 10 place penalty.

Yuki is starting at the back of the grid for multiple components over allocation. (60 grid place penalty.
)
They could have taken the penalty at Hungary when they rebuilt his car, but they didn't want to waste a P10 starting position so they delayed it and it paid off with a P9 finish.

That puts all the pressure on Danny Ric to have a great weekend and claim the Red Bull seat for the rest of the season.
Hopefully the McLarens, Mercedes, and Ferraris can put the pressure on in qualification to make the most of Max’s grid penalty. He did win this race starting from 14th on the grid a few seasons ago.

Hopeful Predictions for this weekend:
Max starts p12 and dive bombs first turn, taking out lewis and himself
Checo pins it in the wall at some point
Norris/Piastri 1+2 Finish
Mclaren within 10pts of RB going into summer break.

While the pressure is off Yuki to score points from last on the grid, there is still motivation for these guys to out-qualify each other.
Last year at Spa Danny botched Q1 when his fast lap was deleted after putting four wheels off at the exit of Raidillon. Yuki ended up finishing the race in the points in P10. Danny finished P16. This was Danny's second race with AlphaTauri and the first in a series of botched qualifying performances that have hampered his comeback. It's only in the last five races or so that he has he started to show consistency throughout each weekend. I can't tell yet if VCARB are going to be strong this weekend.

So today was dry, but I think the forecast is that tomorrow will be wet, and Sunday will be dry again.
A wet qualy will be fun, but because of parc ferme, I believe they will have to use their dry race setups for qualy? I don't know if this means there's a higher probability of shenanigans in qualy.
Weather.com is showing an 80% chance of rain at qualy time tomorrow (4:00 pm local), and dry conditions at race time on Sunday.

This seems like it could result in a wild weekend. Wet qualy on that track with a dry setup could lead to mayhem. P2 was tight.

Spa is the jewel of the F1 calendar - a glorious circuit.
I have a feeling this will be an epic race to remember this weekend.
Can't wait!
