re: 2024 Formula 1 season Thread

I signed up for F1TV before the Suzuka race. My first impression was that all the data, views, radio access, and past content were cool, but that I might not renew it next year. But then I discovered Multiviewer (still before Suzuka) and that transformed the experience completely. I set it up and watched the Suzuka race with Multiviewer, and wow, now I consider it a must-have.
Because I tend to follow the mid-field teams more closely than the leading teams, having several onboard cameras going (and switching cars depending on the situation), it's a lot more fun monitoring the mid-field battle.

If Liberty ever cuts access to Multiviewer, I will instantly cancel my F1TV subscription.

It seems like I looked into F1tv last year, and it looked like it would be difficult to watch on my tv. Is that not true then or now?
I don't have an elaborate computer setup, and my eyes are too old to be watching anything of value on my phone.

F1TV is available streaming just like any other streaming channel.
Are you on cable or am I missing something?
Or are you talking F1TV to be able to use Multiviewer?
You don't need a setup like this;
Although it is nice.

When we had our newborn it was legit to wake up at 2-3am and rewatch for a few hours. Seeing india and the Philippians race during the monsoon season was awesome.

Is there a way to rewatch the current year's races on F1tv?
Can you "record" them like on youtubetv?

I have internet on my tv, I have apps on my tv, and typically watch TV via youtubetv.

It's a Tilke track.
The layout was inspired by the Chinese character shang ? which is the first character in the city name Shanghai.

Someone correct me if I'm getting some of these facts wrong, but with the first sprint weekend coming up, I wanted to detail the new sprint weekend schedule.
First of all, in the first two years of sprints (2021-2022), there were just 3 sprint events per year. Starting in 2023 it was increased to 6 sprint events. In 2021, only the top three finishers got sprint points (3-2-1). Starting in 2022 the top eight finishers got points (8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1).
The schedule has changed. Previously, this was the schedule:
Friday
FP1
Grand Prix qualy
Parc ferme conditions
Saturday
Sprint race qualy
Sprint race
Sunday
Grand Prix
This year's sprint weekend schedule:
Friday
FP1
Sprint race qualy
Parc ferme conditions
Saturday
Sprint race
Setup changes allowed!
Grand Prix qualy
Parc ferme conditions
Sunday
Grand Prix
So there are two big changes. First, grand prix qualy has been moved to after the sprint race, and setup changes are allowed after the sprint race. So now you can gather much more data before locking in your setup for the main race, instead of having to figure it out after just one practice session. I don't know if the previous schedule was to try to create more chaos, but I'm sure the teams hated it.

Yet another former F1 driver is putting in his two cents over Danny Ric's struggles. This time it's three-time race winner Johnny Herbert, kind of the Sergio Perez of his day. Herbert has a bizarro theory that I don't think makes much sense.
Herbert thinks that the younger drivers' embrace of sims gives them an edge over the older drivers?

Coming up on Shanghai, let's look at some facts:
1. Danny has raced in Shanghai eight times, and won one race.
2. Yuki has never raced there.
3. There is only one practice session before sprint qualy.
Given Danny's vast experience and previous mastery of the track, and the fact that there is just one practice session before the first qualy session, Danny should have a significant advantage for sprint qualy. Given Danny's qualy record so far this year, just qualifying ahead of Yuki will be seen as a "win," but for me, unless he has a significant gap (at least 0.3s I guess), it won't be very impressive. After the sprint race, I'm not sure what to expect, whether Danny "should" still have an experience advantage going into the main race qualy.
Herbert thinks that the younger drivers' embrace of sims gives them an edge over the older drivers?
quote:
Discussing the similarities between champions Michael Schumacher and Max Verstappen, Herbert emphasised how important simulation work is to a modern F1 drivers’ performance.
"I remember Michael used to do a little bit of sim work at Ferrari. And he was quite sick when he was doing that. So he really suffered doing the sim work. When Max does it without problem whatsoever when he’s doing the Formula 1 sim. But also when he's doing his racing sims like Lando Norris as well. And it's a skill that has become a seventh sense in Formula 1. They’ve gotten better as time has gone by, but they are very, very much now an important part of a driver's feel with the car itself. Not a feel with your fingertips, but a feeling within your brain, your brain adapts to it without thinking about it.
“I think Daniel Ricciardo when he was with Lando at McLaren, for example, suffered, because Lando was the ‘sim man’. And Daniel wasn't. And I think that's where the struggle was.”

This is the third race since I predicted 3 15+ finishes and he'd be out.
Like you mentioned, I think if he gets blown out by Zuki despite his experience at the track, we won't see him in Miami.

If Yuki beats Danny this weekend, the snark will go through the roof.
