Yep. I said the same on the last page.
He is currently 1B.w/Chase 1A.

This track was made for F1 and they love having a tight corner for the first turn.
And esses.
Neither really work that well with heavy cars.
Hate the term 'technical track', but it is a Tilke track built for attacking corners a la F1. Think NASCAR can put a good road course product out, really excited to see Chicago later this year.

Reddick's son is absolutely adorable.

Suarez arguing and not happy with Ross after the race.

So, for the most part, I let all my pals in this thread off the hook today. Instead, I had fun in F2 thread. Some good natured ribbing about how the interlopers did. Had to let them know who the REAL best drivers in the world are.

Some thoughts about today at COTA
1. That overtime was strange
2. The 45 was best overall but the 24 had best flat speed from eyeball perspective on that straight before Turn 12
3. Those cares are loud like louder than I thought. My head is throbbing
4. The way the numbers shine in person was incredible the 6 shined with that royal blue the most I thought
5. We got sunburnt nicely
6. Was very entertaining could see about 2/3 of track from seats. Couldn’t see Start/Finish but nice monitors easily to see that action
7. PRN on loudspeakers was nice in Cautions

Next time get a scanner and headset. It really completes the fan experience at the races.

Recap
Race baiter Wallace drove into a few cars and took them out plus himself. Meanwhile his teamate won the race out of same garage.
He said, and I paraphrase, " i've been in Cup for six years making mistakes. I should be replaced". Most accurate statement he’s ever made
I liked Chase commemtary. He was spot on several times with strategy. And liked his comments how the first 2 rows raced clean with each other it was the ones behind that didn’t.
Was curious how many run out of gas at end but caution took care of that excitment.
Nascar has to do something about backmarkers making bombing runs into turn 1. It ruins the race for several drivers. I say nascar reviews and if you used excessive bumper in turn 1 you are parked. Turn 1 only too. And it would not require no touching rather if cars get turned or pushed off track they review it. It would clean up these late race road course restarts. Every road course turns into a turn 1 wreck fest.

I had to do a double take when Bubba made the "replaced" comment. He obviously isn't losing his seat anytime soon, even if he deserves to, but I have to give him a little credit for taking some accountability there.
Like you said, his teammate won the race, and Reddick now has three straight top 5s. Bubba has finished 14th, 27th, and 37th in the same races. At least he realizes he has no one to blame but himself.

I think when riad races get down to 6 laps and have caution restarts should be single file. Its unfair to drivers who raced great all day to have all that effort wasted.
All 3 road ringers commented on the poor sportmanship. And they are all champions in other series where you get more respect so its worth noting. Nascar won’t care though they like wrecks and don’t pay the repair bills.

The Teardown alluded to this. The kamikaze driving into the turns can destroy a good day. Suarez is the prime example. Top 5 all day. Someone who restarted 15th sets off a chain reaction that ends up destroying his day. I don't blame him for being pissed. He may not have had a chance at Reddick, but he deserved a top 5.

I agree.
But prepare to be downvoted.

It is definitely interesting to see the differences between F1 and Nascar around a track like COTA and how the drivers are able to use completely different areas of the course.

Video of Suarez ramming some cars in pit entrance and pit lane after race. Penalties likely
“He raced to catch up (even booted his teammate out of the way) and hit the back of the 48. No real confrontation, though”
Twitter video LINK
Also saw this:
Section 4.4.B of Cup Rule Book says that a driver can be penalized for "Intentionally damaging another vehicle on pit road."
Action could result in loss of 25-50 driver and/or team owner points and/or $50,000 - $100,000 fine. Also could face suspension.
——
You can wreck as many as you want as long as its on the track. Not excusing this but nascar has to fix road race restarts. Same at Indy, they all pile drive into others using them as brakes. I hate to see more rules but this isn’t “let boys race” its flat taking out cars on purpose because you can get away with it.

I imagine Suarez will get fined, but I don’t think they’ll suspend him for it.

Agree. And yet the on track intentional wreckers get a pass. Thats why they do it.
Taylor in the 9 car was in 10th at final restart and finished 23 because someone took him out. Think about all the work put in all race long to be in that spot to have it wiped out by back markers.

quote:Rewatch the overhead on those last restarts, that light blue number 1 is the instigator in all three restarts late that sets off a chain reaction. I like Ross, but his driving style is rewarded with how sturdy these cars are and NASCAR refuses to use the one tool they have for his style. Any weekend track if a driver is using up other drivers gets the black flag and is sent off or assessed a penalty. Without Chip getting ticked he was having to spend money on NASCAR Ross has elevated his wreckless on track behavior. NASCAR has to put a stop to it, too many times that #1 is the root cause of these issues.
to have it wiped out by back markers.

Taylor almost looked bewildered in the brief post-race interview I saw. He said he couldn't figure out how to not get knocked out of the way, and even when he didn't leave any holes open, someone would slam into the back of him.
When asked if he would run a Cup event again, he sort of gave a lukewarm "I'd love another shot". He's a competitor, so I don't think he's lying, but I get the feeling he won't be in any hurry to come back.

Using the bumper to move someone out of the way for a win is entertaining. Dive bombing the field at turn 1 or hitting each other at ever turn is not. The black flag needs to come out.
