Hey guys, going to my first US GP this year and just wondering if anyone who’s ever been has any tips or useful info about attending. I have GA tickets for all 3 days.

Thanks!

From what I hear if you just stay for the concert after each days events it's a hell of a lot easier to get out of there. Apparently COTA is a traffic nightmare (public and private).

Get there early, early as you comfortably can. There is plenty to do and see around the track so you can entertain yourself.

Since you have GA just accept you probably won't have a great seat unless you commit to getting there 6am or so.

Security is a joke and people have no idea how to queue. Just keep walking to the front instead of standing in the line coming off the path. There are 30 gates just letting you walk through, but people queue up in 2 lines for some reason.

Incredible, new Checo ad for the cash app…he’s taking RBR employees to dinner. Nice timing

Great timing for sure. Tongue in cheek, Max should be taking Checo to dinner after he battled Leclerc on the last lap. Solid teammate.

They are still competitive. Max has 12 wins but only 5 poles and Saturday .05 separated the top 3. Ferrari have the speed they just can't get out of their own way on Sunday.

I think it’s unfair to make the statement that have a fast quali car means you made/have a fast race car. Ferarri absolutely chews through tires and I think that gives them one lap pace. Maybe they miscalculated the effect on cars when designing it’s, who knows. But it’s clearly a design flaw.

Think it was the 2013 Merc that would qualify amazingly, then watch Seb drove off in the distance. It was a fast quali car, but couldn't do shite during the race.

In 2013 Seb had 9 poles and Lewis and Nico had 8 combined

This year Ferrari has 11 and RB 5. Ferrari has drastically underperformed on Sunday. Whether it's tire deg or incompetence i dunno but their snatching defeat from the jaws of victory has been a constant theme all year. I still think they have a car capable of winning because they are the only other car that has the straight line speed to compete although alpine is certainly in the conversation. Merc is a pig on the straights which makes no sense after they've been so dominate in that area for all of the hybrid era

Listening to LeClerc after the race it is clearly tire deg. He said he had 4 laps on the last set of tires and then they started to deg badly. It's reflected in his lap times. He was chewing into Verstappen after the pit stop and then dropped off dramatically.

Like mentioned security was a joke, feel free to bring a backpack with food, drinks, booze, etc. I was surprised/shocked how little they checked people/bags. Since you’re GA I’d say pack a towel or blanket to sit on at a minimum, an umbrella isn’t a terrible idea to provide your own shade either.

Merch at the track is crazy expensive. $60+ for a t shirt or hat, the McLaren Gulf livery hats were $120 last year. The leftover shirts from previous GPs that didn’t sell and were on sale were still like $50. Food and drinks is about what you’d expect and there’s several stations to fill water bottles if you’d like.

Go watch the support series races. There was some good action last year and a way to kill some time.

Like mentioned you may as well go see the concerts afterwards, traffic leaving right after was a nightmare. On Saturday after Billy Joel we were able to get out of there and back to Austin in like 30 minutes. We left right after the podium Sunday and it took about 3 hours to get back.

Thanks for the advice. May very well bring some booze in. But in case they do check, what are the concession stand lines like?

Depends….went for qualifying last year. Concessions by the front gate were clear. No lines. As we made our way around turn 1-4, the concessions back there were so long. Could be just where I was, that part of the concession with foot traffic was horrible.

Singapore early sale period for 2023 started, just got an email. Saying it because it was refreshing to see some realistic prices, even though it takes a full day of travel to get there. Done that race once, atmosphere is incredible.

I never found them to be too terrible, our longest wait was trying to grab some pizza right before the Billy Joel show and that was about 20 minutes. The lines got long for beers right before the race start but even that was maybe a 15 minute wait, most of the time the lines for booze/food were about 5 minutes or less. I want to say beers were $9-$11 but they were all tallboys.
