Like someone else said, I like the sprints because it is more racing.
I do agree that quali should set the grid for both the sprint and the GP.
I've been toying with the idea that the points from the sprint either count only towards a season sprint championship (with its own cash prizes or extra wind tunnel time) or both the normal season points AND a sprint championship.
I'm NOT serious about this but they could also go the Mario Kart route and race the sprint in the opposite direction as the GP.

I dont like the format of 1 practice, then quali
I'd much prefer FP1 and FP2 on Friday.. Quali on Saturday then Sprint an hour later
I dont hate the sprint, but I dont like them... if you're gonna do them, give the teams 2 FPs before Quali to dial in their stuff
-signed merc lol
I'm honestly split on this... I love the sport and I love more action... At the same time, the sprint is just a second Quali in my eyes and we already did that... in fact it seems like it cheapens both Quali and the GP... but damn, I love watching them race
Maybe save it for NASCAR... it makes more sense there.. idk

Kind of impressed with Albon and the new Williams... hes right there with Alphatauri in terms of lap time

Mick's ability to rise up after Monaco and Guenther's statements should be recognized as well. Dude has really shook it off.

Oh my god, the nightmare for the drivers. It's so hard to learn the track in one direction. That would totally frick them mentally. I like the spirit though. Having to learn tracks in iracing really gives you perspective on what these guys are capable of.

Also you can't race in opposite direction for safety reasons. Tracks aren't built for it.

Just wanted to stop in to say I like the extra competing bits on a sprint weekend, but I hate that it sets the grid for Sunday and the lack of practice time.

True that as well. You'd have to do a ton of work with barriers and walls and whatnot.

FP2 results
Merc were able to get Hamilton's car repaired with about 20 minutes of run time left.
Both Mercs took new gearboxes without penalty. Hamilton took a whole new chassis. Russell looks to have some premium duct tape holding his shite together.

Alpine has a sneaky decent car this year

Where does that put them in count? Is that the last freebie of the year?

Will be nice to get a little taste of racing today.
Should be exciting. I just think how the Ferrari drivers and team must be getting literally driven crazy by Max and all team Red Bull. Would not be surprised if winner today does not win tomorrow.

Also, Hamilton's survival cell was changed along with Russell's rear wing. Russell is using a higher downforce wing now since Merc didn't have a low downforce replacement.
Hamilton appears to be using an old gearbox.
No idea if Russell will be allowed to change back to low downforce if they can get one to the track before the GP.

Sounds like they are going to end up with one car breaking down during the race and one car that will probably end up in a wall. The smart move would be to not push things in the sprint race. Make sure you have two cars for tomorrow.

One thing new fans should appreciate is how close the grids are now. In the past there was often 5 to 7 secs from first to 20th with the slowest cars sometimes not even being fast enough to be allowed to race. I think the slow car has to be within 107% of the fastest to be allowed to race. You never hear much about this anymore because the cars are much closer. It's starting to look like DTM.

Just looking at those FP2 times and 1.6 secs separates the field. In years past that would separate 1 thru 8 or 1 thru 10

You are probably right. Two hastily pieced together cars is begging for something to go wrong.
George running more downforce might be really rough for him.

It's like F1 looked at Nascar and said...that's what we need, stages with points. And why not spread them over 2 days.
