And the odds reflect it.

Call me crazy but I think JMU has a chance. Oregon won’t take this seriously.

James Madison is better than people think.

But this is an unfair comparison because you are comparing years of 1 vs 16 vs one game of James Madison and Oregon.

Therefore, it does not compute

I did napkin math reverse engineering of the moneylines I was seeing, and it looks like the ML implies JMU has a roughly 3.4% chance to win.

1v16 is like 1.4% over the past 40 years

I’m taking JMU easily

EDIT: Maybe more interesting, what about any 1v16 of the four that try in a given year? If one of them is 1.4%, then four of them are ~5.5%… which is more likely than JMU > Oregon

They existed in 2017. I misread that Auburn was undefeated that year. They actually finished the season with 4 losses.

A 12 seed has never beaten a 5 seed in the CFP.

Not saying there isnt a talent gap but it's not what it used to be.

There’s even more of a talent gap in the NIL era

Especially with Oregon opening the checkbook and basically whoever they want they get

Meanwhile G5s get raided and have to rebuild the roster every year

JMU will be one of the top 5 teams Oregon has seen this year.

They lost to Indiana
Beat USC comfortably
Beat Iowa by 2
Beat Penn State in overtime

Oregon is fools gold

This is easily JMU over Oregon.

16 over a 1 has only happened twice in NCAA history..?

JMU is a top 25 team in the country playing the 5th best team. A 16 seed is no better than a top 60 team beating a top 4 team.

The odds are astronomically better JMU beats Oregon than a 16 beats a 1.

That being said, JMU still going to lose to Oregon

how did Tulane and jmu both get in? I thought it was the highest ranked team outside of the power 4 gets in. how do they both get in if they have no auto bid and werent ranked high enough.

is there an auto bid that i dont remember ?

The auto bids are not SEC + B1G + B12 + ACC + next highest champ. It’s just top five champs.

Duke won the ACC title (lmao) and was ranked lower than Tulane, James Madison, Texas Tech, Georgia, and Indiana.

Most interesting thing I found out about JMU is their back up QB is the former QB from UNLV that left the team last year cause they didn't pay him what they said (verbal agreement) it was a big story for a couple of weeks, but then died out. One of his former coaches went there and he followed. He hasn't played a ton, but still got to the playoffs..
