NIL and player comp is the driver for all this. Without it, none of those happens—ever. They knew it was coming following years and years of litigation. Much like the confederacy, they fought hard to keep their slaves, but it was not to be.

So let me get this straight most years there were barely 4 teams that were competitive enough. So, they went to 12 and had no competitive first round games the same when it was only 4 teams - rarely a competitive first round game now they want to go to 14 or 16?

Makes no sense and you are just going to get more blowouts.

Well, the 8 seed just dong slapped everyone en route to looking like one of the best teams in history, so I’d say there isn’t much to lose by taking the Citrus Bowl participants into the party.

Just wait until a highly rated player gets injured in the expanded playoffs and loses out on NFL money.

Then all the holdouts start occurring.

The playoff format change would clear the way for SEC administrators to, finally, make the long-discussed move to play nine regular-season conference games

good luck with that

That’s so ridiculous. 2/3 of the top 25 get in the playoff now, rendering the entire season nearly useless.

What kind of math is this?

2/3 of 25 is 16+
1/2 of 25 is 12.5

The answer is right in front of you, mate. The only league in which small markets thrive, wokeness has been beaten back, and the enthusiasm and ratings are higher than ever.

Should be a guaranteed minimum of 6 SEC schools

Three SEC teams was probably too many last season, and you want 6?

Wow, a piece of paper from a directional school in one of the worst public university systems in the country. Probably pens out to about $2.25/hr (adjusted for today’s value of the USD) that you got paid. And you were a prisoner there, not free to work anywhere else without penalty from the NCAA. Stockholm syndrome is real.
I was free to not run track/xc. I chose to. That was my job in exchange for a reduced cost education.

And I also was free to work another job which I did. Two as a matter of fact.

Maybe ESPN can just weigh in with more propaganda to help them avoid this atrocity.

ESPN is one of the driving reasons why CFB is in the state that it is now. Focus is on dollar signs and whatever social agenda they wish to fill...has been forever now.

They’ve ruined CFB beyond imagination. Absolutely terrible what it’s become

It was so much better when the labor was unpaid and the post season was a political contest easily manipulated with soft scheduling.

Yes. It was much better. NIL and this monstrosity have killed college football.

labor mobility should work.

Student athletes are not labor. They are students. They are not professionals and should not be paid like professionals. If they want to be paid, they should declare for the draft.

If I'm a coach now, I ride these kids till their ACLs are dust because they're on 1 year contracts and sold to the highest bidder. There is no reason to rest them or worry about their long term well-being because they are rentals. They don't care about the university, so the university shouldn't care about them.
