I don't want to lead anyone the wrong way but I still see high upside with most of the S1s

But right now you have over 100000 people fighting for various moments that have a scarcity of 15000 or less so they are worth more.
so what do you think will cause a million people to fight for those moments? Because that’s where the long term value increase lies, in expanding the market

If people realize they’re paying for nothing, they’ll leave the market, and collapse it

The S1’s sure, though I don’t know how much higher the upside will be outside of the rarer “cards.”

The seasons following that? I don’t think they will be worth much are more and more people get into this.

More and more websites are accepting Bitcoin as a method of payment as we go more into digital purchasing.

This is in now way similar to 5 second clips of basketball highlights

most of the S1s have mints under 4k - so they are all rare.

moving forward, just with any other sports collectible, it will depend on the player and the serial number and the highlight for "real" value

will the first mint (1/25000) S2 lebron james out of the base pack that was put up for purchase this saturday be valuable moving forward - yes, likely.

will the mint (22450/25000) S2 Javale McGee be valuable? probably not

then there are layers between those extremes - im not sure why this is even being debated, but whatever

I don’t know why it’s being debated either but the fact that LSUZombie hates makes me feel better knowing I’m on the right side of this

I don’t hate it, you idiot. I’ve tried several times to buy packs to see what would happen.

The fact that some of you get so pissy when people question the buying and selling of highlights is adorable. Also the defensiveness makes me raise an eyebrow. Y’all sound scared.

It’s not about the highlight. The whole point is that people that don’t understand what a marketplace is. People said years ago Bitcoin is “paying for nothing” as well.

Value is value. A market is a market. Scarcity is scarcity. It doesn’t matter if it’s a 5 second gif of a scrub basketball player, a piece of digital art, the 1st edition of an old book, a Black Lotus drawn on a piece of cardboard, or a Michael Jordan RC. If people are willing to pay for it, it’s not “nothing” is the whole point.

You can debate the longevity of Top Shot and digital collectibles, but the market has shown that value exists.

yea, im hardly scared, for the few weeks this thread has been posted, huge buying opportunities passed many by...

S1s were under $10, the lebron lookaway 3 i linked was under $200 (now $1500), the zion block i linked was $1400 (now $9700)

other leagues are joining digital highlights, NBA was just the first mover, this is just getting started (imo), im excited more than scared.

If the NBA marketing department isn't already thinking of producing a simple NBA licensed cube with LED screens to set on your shelf to show off your collection then they're doing it all wrong.

Was talking to my buddy about this just a moment ago who is a big card collector (amateur but he likes to collect) and the big hang up for him on this was that it wasn't something tangible to hold; I think if you make a licensed LED cube you just shoot this idea to the next level.

As a card collector, really just general collector of sports and weeb memorabilia, your buddies take is a bad one.

There are just other obvious possible flaws in topshots model, which is why I'm waiting for it to mature before getting in to it

Yup - that technology exists for stuff like digital art and I would say with 99% certainty the TS devs are working on ideas like this - according to the hardcore TS ppl the Dapper group is leaving no stone unturned.
