Not sure who is the hottest team but they could have made a case. 4 double digit wins in the last 3 weeks over 4 sweet 16 teams.

The teams they've been beating are better than the teams anybody else in the country has been beating by far and the scores haven't been all that close.

How can anyone say that UK didn't play well? That was one of the best played games of the tournament. Low number of turnovers, good defense, nice pace, clutch shooting...great efforts by both teams big men. Calipari should just acknowledge the other team being as good as them and winning due to circumstances...which is what happened. But cal had to be cal.

Ok. I'll take the team that's won 37 in a row (before tonight) as hotter than the team that's won 8

I just heard Gumbel say that Ky didn't miss a shot in the last 10.5 minutes of the game. Yea, they played well.

Bingo. They were something like 7-1 against sweet 16 teams. That's a pretty crazy stat.

Your point? UK didn't play well. What ND has or hasn't done has zero to do with it.
Any team that shoots 53.2% from the field has no justification for saying they didn't play well. Kentucky came into the game planning to exploit the inside with Towns, and they accomplished that.
I'd love to see the reaction of Kentucky fans if Notre Dame had won and their coach said "We shot 29 percent from the three-point line tonight, so we obviously didn't play as well as we normally do."

Because their back court was 4-12 with 4 assists. What we just saw was big men refusing to lose while being 10x more athletic than ND.

Yeah but all four teams that played today are all more deserving. Gonzaga could make an argument.
Not sure ND deserved that, but they should have been a #2.
UK, WISC, ARIZ should have been #1s. UVA should have been a #1, even though they lost in 32 IMO. ND/Gonzaga/Duke should have been 2s.
Again, this is IMO.
One side of the bracket had 3 true #1s. The other side had a 1 seed as a 2 seed and a whole bunch of 2 seeds.

Kentucky gave up back cuts and offensive rebounds all day long. They also didn't communicate well when Notre Dame would drive in to the lane. A 6'4" guard was able to drive to rim for uncontested dunks a couple of times in addition to their big man's put back dunks.
I don't think it's outrageous to say that UK didn't bring their best game today. Notre Dame played a great game. They didn't rain threes like most pundits predicted they would need to do. But they lived in the paint which was unexpected.
The guys that are plugged in to college hoops had said all day that ND would need to play their best and UK would have to play below their best. If UK plays their best, it's unlikely that anyone beats them.

I was speaking from Kentucky's perspective.

Y'all are a little too hung up on his interview comments.
And I'd say they didn't play defensive as well as they typically do, especially in the paint. There was one point where Notre Dame, despite being a smaller team, had more points in the paint. You think that's playing well for a team with their size?

You take what they give you, and if KAT is dominating then keep feeding him. Back court moved the ball well and didn't turn it over much. 4-12 isn't great but it's not God awful either.

Or maybe Kentucky isn't as good at those aspects of the game as you think they are....
We'll find out against Wisconsin.

Well that's ONE side of the ball...

Brey always puckers up at the end of close games. WTF was he thinking on the last 2 possessions? None of his guys can beat any KY player 1 on 1. Run the offense!

I would attribute some of that to Kentucky not having much time to prepare for Notre Dame's offense. The points in the paint were largely due to some tremendous cuts and subsequent layups/dunks. Notre Dame didn't play above their heads.
I actually like Kentucky and think their players have a lot of class, but Calipari's comments really do come across as arrogant and demeaning.
He's been coaching for over 25 years or so now... he should know better.

Calipari is such a dick...."we didn't play well and they played great..."
I got critisized on here when I said this in January. At the beginning of the season it's always "we're young, I play 5 freshmen" and it's this in the latter part.
He is one cocky SOB but I guess you can be that way when you win the way he does

That might be true. Maybe it took a fundamentally sound team on offense to expose it. That could definitely be the case.
But they have been one of the best defensive teams in college basketball history to this point. I would be surprised if they've given up back cuts and open lanes to that degree this season.

He's always been like that. He refers to Louisville as "the other Kentucky school" like UL doesn't have as many Championships during his tenure at UK as he does. Hey boss, you are hands down the best recruiter in college basketball but there are actually other really good teams out there too that develop talent and keep players. Louisville won their championship with Peyton Siva, Russ Smith, Gorgui Dieng, Luke Hancock, and Chane Behanan. UK won theirs with Anthony Davis and 5 other players who were all drafted the next year into the NBA.
