Want to really be angry? Learn how much health insurance costs in other parts of the world.
USA is such a joke.

Tell us how much it cost in other parts of the world. Before you answer it's free, it's not.

This is true in theory. But because we have this weird system for using it for non emergencies and catastrophes, it leads to this nutty system of having high insurance costs plus high copays. Wtf
For every 50 people have normal medical expenses, there's that one that goes in the hospital and racks up millions.
It's insurance, not a buyers club. Worst still, it's not underwritten. Thank Obamacare for that. You know how you get a unique quote for your car that includes your age, driving history, etc? Imagine if it was mandated that it be the same for everyone..that's what happened with Obamacare.

Sure. I have three people I take care of including myself.
Over the last year I paid $2,000 in insurance for all three of us.
I paid $85 for two root canals.
$600 for braces
$200 for 5 different doctor visits
$350 in medicine
$30 for a sleep study

Are you just trying to shite on your own point? $85 for two root canals? $40 per doctor visit? $600 for braces? What exactly is the time of the doctors, dentists, nurses, and hygienists worth in your world?

I should clearly enroll in additional years of schooling since I was worth so much after a BS

Part of that is Dental. I need a whole lot more information than what you provided . What country do you live in?

I would have a heart attack thinking/knowing financial destruction lurks at any moment.

I agree. But it isn't insurance because it isn't underwritten. It is a tax. That is how taxes work.

People come to the US from all over the world for healthcare (super rich people that is). I have seen it with my own two eyes.
I do realize you can get stuff like crowns or fillings and such at super cheap prices in 2nd or 3rd world countries (I would just worry about sanitation).
But if you need some complex surgery you want to be in the US (with financial resources at hand).

100% true.
However....
The savings on insurance alone for me allows me to live the healthiest life possible which makes up for that lack of access for me.
I have a personal chef making 80% of my healthy meals at home with only fresh/organic fruits/cheese/veg/meats
A personal trainer that I work with 4/5 days a week
On demand massages/physical therapy (normally once a week)
So while you are 100% correct that I will not have access to top tier doctors, the level of health i am able to achieve where i live would be impossible for me in USA from a financial standpoint.
ETA: I know I talk about the cheap cost of living where i live often but it really is something I am very passionate about sharing with people in USA.

What do you get out of car insurance if you don’t get in a wreck this year? What do you get out of flood insurance if your house doesn’t flood this year?
Better analogy would be if your insurance was more than your note and then it didn't pay when you needed to use it.

One of my high deductible plans capped my payment at around 12k...but also capped my coverage at around 100k...so something truly expensive would still have wrecked me.
Must of been a long time ago, medical insurance no longer has capped coverage amounts

HSA with that HDHP!
This.
If you are healthy, an HSA is beneficial because it’s pretax and, at least at the bank we use, anything over 2k— you can put in stocks. I’ve been contributing and saving it for retirement or a large medical event in the meantime. I’m only 35 but have accumulated around $25,000 in the HSA. Deductible is 3k & OOP Max is 10k.
Our employer matches 100% up to 3k a year. Very generous and almost unheard of. Still, only around 10% of the company would max out that benefit. And beyond that, about 30% of those enrolled in the HDHP contributed absolutely nothing to the HSA. Mind boggling.

There are ACA non-compliant plans with caps.

You have to think about all risks. Exercise and diet do not protect you against car accident, most cancers, neurological issues (and these are just off the top of my head) and can financially ruin you and your dependents.

I have insurance. The best money can buy where I live.
I am just stating that yes, I understand if I get some sort of rare cancer or disease then where I live now is not ideal.
The risk/reward is heavily in my favor for the next 20 years of my life.
