Well, trade negotiations are still ongoing. Which is why the tariffs are still in place.
The tariff %s have swung wildly with essentially zero gives from the Chinese.

You mentioned "tactics". We should be at least seeing some incremental tactical outcomes along the way.

there’s no tactics.

Trump came out and said these are the tariffs and not a negotiation. Then everyone said “bet” and he was like wow guys I’m negotiating but they’re staying high until the cheating stops.

Then the world said “bet” and he said wow guys they’re not gonna stay this high at all smdh

I really am amazed at the lack of critical thinking by many people. I’m not a good negotiator, in fact I’m a terrible one. I hate negotiating as I simply hate the back and forth nature of it. Through that lens, even I could see this is all a negotiating tactic, and that in negotiations you never show all your cards at the beginning or middle. I understand that uncertainty is way worse than actual bad policies set in stone because you can at least plan around the bad policies, but man people simply needed to practice some patience and let the negotiations play out.

My observation is that Trump felt obligated to comment on the matter to de-escalate.

Trump’s tone was not one of playing hardball. He wants it to end before Xi does.

So you just have to ask yourself what changed for Trump’s tone to change?

Of course

People might be less inclined to write you offer as utterly non-serious if you actually contributed something to the discussion. I gave my underlying reasoning for why I think as I do; feel free to counter with actual detail

As an attorney, I negotiate for a living. One of the first things I learned was to differentiate between zero sum negotiation (like in a raw financial dispute) and positive sum negotiation (like in a criminal case). The reason Trump keeps having to dislodge his foot from his mouth is that he keeps treating the tariff situation as a binding zero sum negotiation when literally everyone around him understands that it's a non-binding positive sum negotiation. In Trump's business world, if you can't reach an agreement, everyone just walks away from the table and goes their separate ways. That's not how international relations work. No matter what we do or don't do, literally every other country in the world is free to do whatever they want. All of the "playing hardball" posturing makes zero sense within that context. The sooner Trump wraps his head around that, the better. Because at that point, we can start figuring out what's important to us, what's important to our trading partners, and find a reasonable middle ground to give everyone what they want. As long as he treats things as a zero sum game to be won, the longer this disaster is going to continue without gaining anything.

When you lose 40% of your customers you will cave. Everyone knows this. Chyna and XI must save face thats their entire culture. A deal will be done and why Orange is saying he will cut the tariffs. Thats the strategy

They cant outlast the American consuner

Your TDS doesnt allow you to think clearly it seems. Sorry i dont waste my time ranting with walls of nonsense just to appease random message board posters

This is the same CCP that engages in ethnic cleansing and slavery. What face are they worried about saving?

I think he's conflating the very real personal avoidance of shame with the seemingly not real state avoidance of shame. I can't fathom Xi feeling an ounce of shame over leading his nation into a long, protracted, famine level trade war. I could be wrong, but I just don't see it. Nothing in his history indicates that would be the case. On the other hand, Trump wants a legacy. If he loses the House and Senate in the midterms, he's all but guaranteed not to have one.

"Low IQ. TDS." You bore me. Let me know when you come up with some new insults. I can always appreciate a good insult. If we're going to hurl insults instead of actually debating, frick it man, let's have fun. At least every time I accuse y'all of tickling Trump's enlarged prostate with your tongue, I come up with a new way of saying it.
