I never see it, nor hear about it unless I'm talking to my more tech savy nieces. Do they have promoted chats like promoted tweets like Twitter, or sponsored chats like facebook's sponsored posts? Or a sponsored commercial before the chat like YouTube? How are they making money? Advertising, or is this speculation that they will be bought out?

snapchat is 100% dead. investors are trying to get some money out of suckers.

Instagram stories is already getting more use than snapchat and hasn't even been live for a year.

ETA: Because you idiots downvote without engaging in any sort of conversation here are some links.

I don't think Instagram is going to kill off Snapchat, but Snapchat does have a severe monetization problem.

The ads only come through on stories, but you can click through them, which makes it kind of pointless.

Snapchat is much more intuitive and easier to use than Instagrams story feature. It also has some events coverage and whatnot that Instagram is not offering.

All that said, I wouldn't touch Snap with a 100 ft pole. Who knows what it'll do, because this valuation is ridiculous, but I could see it continuing to run. I wouldn't mess with it.

You won't get shares in the IPO and will have to buy in the market.

How does it make money? I don't know how it does therefore I wouldn't touch it.

Average time spent per user is 25-30 min DAILY. It is nowhere close to dead.Their reach is huge and users love it. Definitely has potential to become highly profitable.

Nah - it will be a short lived fad. There are new platforms that will crush Snapchat within 24 months.

The next generation of high schoolers and college kids will only know of what Snapchat was - not what it could have been.

People have been using Snapchat for 3-4 years already. It isn't going anywhere. I'm 27 and I was considered "late" to Snapchat when I started using it about 2ish years ago. Anyone who thinks Instagram will be the one to kill of Snapchat clearly doesn't use the two products. As of today, they overlap only on a few features

No idea if Snapchat can be profitable, but it definitely has become an integral part of any under 30 person's life. Well, any under 30 who don't drive tractors for a living

I'm late 20s and I recently found out that Snapchat is getting big with finding dates? Basically people posting on stories locallly and then somehow connecting afterwards. Snapchat and Instagram are two fundamentally different products and experiences.

IG can do everything snap can do but add filters.. But I'm sure the filter options are coming

The IG story feature continues to grow

Only thing snap has right now over IG is it's legacy

I thought snapchat was a text that lasted for 10 seconds and then disappeared. So I obviously don't understand it and won't be partaking in its purchase.
