And then iran's oil hits the market in mid summer. Whatever relief comes from production cuts will be short term.
You know that's already baked into the price, right? It's not like Iran's oil is some unforeseen surprise. If they end up producing more than expected, then yeah the price could drop

Yep, I'm aware of that. I'm also aware that their analysis and projections have been way off many times before. I'm hopeful for a change upward, but I'm not under the belief that it happens in the next 4-6 months. Our CEO thinks different and I hope he's correct.

Russia agrees to meet with the Saudis regarding production cuts.....
Let's get this shite done!
Anybody know more about what's going on or when they might actually meet/agree? It sounds like oil came up a bit today based on the Russian announcement that both themselves and the Saudis might be willing to drop production by 5% if all the major oil countries do too?
I also read somewhere that they are guessing oil could rally to $50 if they agree on the 5% cut? Awesome if so.
Russians

I bought some more COP today.
Posted on 1/29/16 at 9:51 pm to Fat Bastard
I'm hoping COP has one more positive day in Monday so I can sell a week's worth of gains. I love this volatility. $$$$$$.

Forget that, I need one more big dip so my orders will go through, should have put them in a couple months ago.
Then it can jump way up.
Then it can jump way up.

I'll be holding until it gets back into the 80s again.
I'll be way ahead before that but that is the plan.

quote:The Russian oil minister was full of shite. Once this statement hit the press, OPEC said that there was no planned meeting beyond their regular one in June, and definitely not a meeting to discuss production cuts.
Anybody know more about what's going on or when they might actually meet/agree? It sounds like oil came up a bit today based on the Russian announcement that both themselves and the Saudis might be willing to drop production by 5% if all the major oil countries do too?
So the Russian oil minister came back the next day (their time, not ours) and said that there wasn't a meeting or anything, but that Russia was willing to talk production cuts.
Once that hit the press, Iran shot back that they won't support a supply cut or any emergency OPEC meeting to discuss one. In fact, Iran said they won't consider a production cut until their exports have increased by 1.5 million barrels a day. In addition, Total S.A. is going to, or has, signed an agreement with Iran to purchase 150k-200k barrels of oil a day.
If I was OPEC, I would have "agreed" to a production cut with Russia in December and just let them turn off their production while maintaining mine. It's really difficult for Russia to turn their oil production back on in the winter once they turn it off, so OPEC would snag some more exports to Europe.

shite thats was Russia was planning to do to OPEC. They cant afford to quit pumping.

If ISIS can smuggle oil then so has Iran. Their oil isn't going to push the needle IMO.
ding ding ding, I believe we are going to see a drop in Iraq's "record breaking" production numbers as soon as Iran starts marketing it's own oil.
On another note it is not in Saudi Arabia's long term best interest to prop up the price of crude, that news made the Russians somewhere around $110 million on a rumor alone, there will be plenty more of them

So considering the shoot ups this week seems to be based on that, I'm thinking everything will fall back down in the next few weeks?

while your question is not aimed at me I will give my 2 cents worth.
I believe crude is going to trade in a slowly decreasing range for the next 9-12 months. where the bottom is exactly is anyones guess, but I have seen no reason to think we are there yet. JMHO
Posted on 1/30/16 at 10:19 am to cave canem
Yeah I was honestly surprised at the uptick this week considering I'm seeing 1.55 and lower gas everywhere
I certainly don't think we're out of it and expect it to get lower again. Which I'm fine with, just more to buy in for.
Posted on 1/30/16 at 12:32 pm to GREENHEAD22
Russia has a problem getting the production restarted in the winter if they shut it off. A lot of their oil is in cold areas anyway, and the winter makes it even colder. OPEC doesn't have that problem.

Bracing to see how things play out today. Expecting a drop back to levels we saw before last week honestly.
Uhhh yep...and there they go.
